    Well folks,

I am wanting to put a solid base on the farm lane, its my own private lane. it has a granite/sand base as it is, but when it rains and i drive on it, it goes to slop.

Its used for Cattle and Machinery. Any ideas for the best stone to put down and also how much per meter it might cost?

You need a stone with less dust in it. In recent years, i have done 2 similar jobs at home. One was the roadway to my new house. I made it from blast rock. The big rock was raked to the bottom and the finer stuff on top. It is now a smooth road as the fine material has almost set together. It cost approx €150 per load and I put 50 to 60 loads down for a 500m road. But it can carry readymix lorries.

Second road that I did was farm roads. I bought the soft red rock which comes from the top of the quarry and can usually be dug out instead of blasted. You lay it with a track machine and as the steel tracks go across it, it breaks down into smaller stone. It costs about €120 for a 20 ton load delivered.
