Hey a quick question as per the title,I was on the 5.50 Sligo to Dublin train two weeks ago and noticed there was no ticket inspector on the train/selling tickets and no where to buy one at the station I got on at.
I had a return ticket that day.

Assuming you didn't have one do you just get one in Connelly when you get there?

Can a railway station sell you a ticket with it as the destination?

I recall a thread here a little while back where the poster did just what the OP here is suggesting but when he did, the guy issued him with a fine for travelling on the train with no ticket so I wouldn't go near an IR employee at the end of the journey.

If the vending machines are working in the station then they could say that you need to use them, though some on here claim that the bye-laws don't cover the TVMs.

It did happen once where I got a DART from Clontarf Road when the power was out so no ticket could be issued. The clerk was actually quite rude to me saying "the power's out, what do you expect me to do?" I got on anyway and explained at the other end that I came from Clontarf Road. They said they knew about it and all was fine.

She's kind of worried now :P

They couldn't possibly fine you in that case. Might be worth taking a photo of the closed booking office. :pac:

Don't worry you are not able to get a ticket its not you fault, if you are fined it will be becasue the person is no aware of the suituation at the station etc (they should be). You will not need to pay the fine just contact station manager at Connolly or call there customer relations department and they will sort it out.

I was fined before by RPA who didn't beleave me when I said ticket office was closed, TMV not there or no checker onboard. A call and it was all sorted out.

Only when you are unable to get one elsewhere and not to people who try to travel for free and then use the excuse there was no ticket office open or TMV when they get caught.

Used to get this train regularly. Possibly an inspector on it 1 in 20 times. It's a high traffic train, by the time it gets to maynooth, there is a lot of standing passengers and I can't imagine an inspector moving through them too easily.

I do wonder if that station is kept open by its artificially high ticket sales...

Can the person handing out these "supplementary passes" guarantee beyond all doubt that they have been issued to every person travelling from Broombridge station?
