I 'm thinking of getting one,but Im worried about reliabilty.A mate of mine has one and it stopped showing his heart rate, new battery's in the chest strap didn't fix it.Was purchased in Harvey Normans 2 yrs ago and as they don't sell them anymore they didn't help him out.Any problems with 500's from folks on here??? Thanks.

Only bother I've ever had is twice in absolutely lashing rain (W200 last year and one other time) I find the altimeter goes mental. Otherwise absolutely fine! The odd time the HR strap doesn't work at first when I put it on but if you just wet it that sorts it out. The replacement batteries whenever you need them no doubt can be got dirt cheap on dealextreme.com or similar.

Hi my garmin has worked perfectly since i bought it about 6 months ago. Never had a problem with it.

Mine has been fine for the 14 months I've had it. Few odd readings every now and again, but nothing to be concerned about. Has your friend tried doing a full reset on the device? The only other problem I encountered was that the button to change screen would sometimes need to be pressed a few times before the screen would alter - full reset sorted it out.

3 years with hr monitor never had problem (apart from dropping it on the drive and cracking the outer casing)

No problems with the workings of mine. I bought one second hand earlier this year and the rear of the casing snapped off when I released it from its bracket. Garmin replaced it with a new unit no questions asked (apparently it was a known problem with the earlier units). I only had to pay for postage. I'd have no problems recommending them if that helps

Funnily enough the hr monitor sensor on mine failed the other day. I got soaked on wednesday and on thursday the readings were really erratic then stopped , yesterday I changed the battery but the unit would not work at all. Never had a problem with it before. Looking at it though i think when I last changed the battery I might not have tightened one of the screws on the back properly.
Luckily a freind had a spare belt/sensor so got sorted.

heart sensor can act dodgy if not tight enough on your chest, had that happen to me for a while till i figured it out.

as for the device, had it 22 months and no issues

This is the cheapest I have come across

Perfect feedback - and I don't need the other stuff as I have them from my watch already. Has anyone ever bought from him? Main danger is the warrantee is done from him i assume

It's just a case of going onto garmin.com, go to UK/IRL link and email their customer service dept. They'll email on a code and all details/ instructions etc.

The Garmin HR strap isn't the most reliable. Supposed to be waterproof up to 10m so that it can be used in a triathlon without having to take it off mid-race, but after I brought mine into the shower to give it a quick wipe down it started acting very erratically before dying completely. Tried replacing battery, everything. Luckily I had a spare one so I could confirm the strap was dead and not the computer.

have mine for 15 months now and found it great for the first 10 months or so before the hr monitor became erratic. however i solved the problem by deleting the history of all activities from the device. As long as i keep the history relatively clear then it appears to work fine.

You could get hit for customer duties as its going to ship from Taiwan. That could dent perceived savings...

(oh, and all the characters on the screen will be wonky ... :D:D) not reallly
