    Hi,
I am going on a 2 hour flight with Aer Lingus in a few months, just wondering does anyone know if Aer Lingus considers a laptop bag hand luggage aswell as a small suitcase for hand luggage?

    Hi dman,

I would say they do consider it one piece of hand luggage. Where is the flight to? They only seem very strict if the flight is full and might make you check your small suitcase. They usually don't charge at the gate for this.

They would consider it a personal item like a lady's handbag.

    At the moment anyway.

Its to France, I heard people saying before that you can and then sometimes they make you check it in.

You can take a laptop bag in addition to a suitcase onboard.

Aer Lingus have recently changed their carry on allowances. See here for the up to date rules. A separate laptop bag is no longer allowed.

It is allowed. If you read carefully it says

"You may choose to carry on one of the following in addition....

Handbag/Gents Satchel (read: Laptop) not exceeding 25cmx33cmx20cm.

I've brought a slightly bigger laptop bag with my carry on bag many times after the new rules were introduced and nobody batted an eyelid.

    Yes, it is.

Normal pax: One carry on and one personal item
Gold Circle pax: One carry on, two personal items.

Realistically nothing has actually changed (For mainline - I believe the bag size for Regional has changed) - they're just re-stating the existing rules to remind people of them, and they are enforcing the bag shape/size a bit more frequently than before. Some contractors in out-stations are very zealous at checking, others (Menzies in Manchester....) are not.

Aer Lingus recently announced one piece of hand luggage per passenger.

And? He is quoting the "recently announced" rules. I suggest you actually read them.

In practice nothing has changed. Appears more to be a tactic to make some people relax on the carry on they're taking on with them, which from what i see on a daily basis is bordering on ridiculous at times.

You obviously stopped reading before you saw the text that states "in addition you may take 1 personal item..............not exceeding 25cmx33cmx20cm........... which must be stowed under your seat."

So to recap.......1 item of hand/cabin luggage to go in the overhead lockers, 1 personal item to stay with you. I would assume if they is physically no space left in the overhead lockers then they will have to take luggage off the last few passengers getting onboard.

I agree with lordlucan. Some people rock up with the kitchen sink (how they got past check-in, I don't know) but generally, a personal bag and a laptop is not an issue. The Airbuses have a lot more room overhead than an ATR so it's generally not a problem.

Are you allowed bring deodorant spray in your hand luggage if it is less than 100 ml & included in a zip lock bag?

might as well put this question in here. I'll be connecting to a TA flight in Heathrow with EI. Will I have to pay for checked in luggage on EI on the first leg?

Once it is under 100ml and in the clear plastic bag with your other liquids there is no problem

Booked on a single ticket and/or a BA code on the first flight?

booked on a single ticket with Virgin Atlantic to the states then. not a codeshare, i'd guess.

You *should* have the Virgin baggage allowance on the EI flight.

    cheers, fingers crossed!

I'd be able to bring my bag on as carry on as it's quite small, but I'd prefer to check it in and hopefully checked through, so I won't have to carry it through Heathrow!

I'm flying a similar itinerary in June. DUB/LHR with Aer Lingus and LHR/NRT on Virgin. Booked on same ticket via expedia.

I rang Aer Lingus and I was told that I will be entitled to the same checked-in luggage allowance as Virgin. They said in cases like this the longest sector's allowance will be applied and respected by other carriers.

I just got off a flight from manchester. I had a bag, a medical device bag, a sealed duty free bag and the wife had a carry on bag. No one looked twice

Menzies are extremely lax at ever checking the bag rules, generally once onboard the cabin crew will never question anything and nobody would care in Dublin on arrival obviously.

Its leaving in Dublin with their own staff that you might get asked.
