how many grams of chlorine dioxide are needed to have 0.250 mol? i dont understand why the question does'nt give a volume in litres?? Also i dont know how to do it? i know its in the wrong place but there is no chemistry thread.

Even though it's a gas, ClO2 has mass. Therefore its quantity can be expressed in grams. The volume that a given amount of the gas occupies, though, will vary according to temperature and pressure. Therefore you cannot express how much of it there is in litres unless the ambient temperature and pressure are specified.

The molar mass of ClO2 is 67.45g/mol.

You should now have enough info to work out the answer.

with gases you also need to give the temperature and pressure , volume on it's own doesn't mean anything

a mole is the number of atoms you'd need to have one gram for each unit of atomic weight as usually listed in the Periodic Table
one mole of carbon weighs 12 grams etc.

chlorine has a fraction because chlorine here on earth is comprised of isotopes with different weights that average out to that
