Had the very same thing happen to my 40gig a few weeks before the YLOD, back up your saves just in case.

Sounds to me like your temperature sensor is on the way out, but I could be wrong. The 3 beeps is a warning that the ps3 is overheating and shuts itself down for safety.

I would recommend if its out of warranty to open it up and clean out the dust and maybe even put in some new thermal paste.

I did 2 weeks ago to my 40gb (500gb now) and put in an original 19 blade fan and haven't looked back, I'm not saying you need a new fan but a repaste might be on the cards.

It never stayed on again and is now unusable, once it gets YLOD it's done for unless you get it repaired.

I did not get mine repaired as I had already changed out the laser a few months before and decided not to waste anymore money on it, but to put the money towards a new PS3.

I had tried to fix it myself and changed the thermal paste and checked the power supply but it would still turn off at start up every time.

You need to strip the PS3 down to be able to apply it, have a look on youtube for vids .

I never used a heat gun or hairdryer on my PS3.

Only do it if your PS3 is out of warranty.

there are plenty of youtube videos on how to repaste your ps3(just make sure its the same model ps3 as they vary ,some more than others) its an easy process as long as you take your time.

Separate your screws as they vary in size and length I made a simple diagram as to where they are located and what type, I split it into four parts.

You will need a size 10 torx screwdriver a normal and smaller sized phillips screwdriver. some polypropyl alcohol (get this in a chemist €11) and ear buds to clean the old thermal paste off the cpu/gpu.

All this will make sense when you watch any of the videos.

Another thing is I would recommend to use a non electrically conductive thermal paste like arctic clean mx-4 as I used.

Feel free to ask anything your not sure on.

was in the same situation last year with my Launch Model, tried changing the thermal paste. But the thing is you have to strip the PS3 right down, its opened from the top and the bloody heatsinks are deep inside, theres a lot that needs to be dismantled and talk about screws, the parts can easily be damaged if your rough with it, took me over an hour to get to the heatsinks, didn't even bother putting it back together i was so frustrated. Ended up buying a slim.
