Maybe the 100k or 200k have had enough of Tubbs and O'Connor.

let them have blank screens so, they will get it sorted when they realise. its not like no running water, they have done loads of advertising.

RTE aren't worried about the people. They are worried about the effect it will have on their advertising revenue.

Exactly, who is going to be bothered by it. It's just RTE, even if I lost all my satellite channels I would be in no hurry to get it fixed.

200k households (don't believe it is that high) is around 11% of all households but as high as 30% of 'rte only' households. I can't blame them for being nervous.

I put up my own aerial and satellite dish (for freesat) several years ago as I decided that I wasn't forking out hundreds a year for SKY. All was well and good until Saorview was proposed. So I thought, do I get 3 boxes for the existing tvs to decode the new signal or get 3 new tvs with MPEG4 tuners built in? And what did I decide after very little thought..........I never watch RTE or TV3 as I can't stand their programming, their light weight "celebrities" or how even their "heavyweight" current affairs presenters constantly fail to hold the body politic to account (I know, very heavy man:rolleyes:).

So I haven't switched over as I basically couldn't be ar$ed if I never watched terrestrial tv again. I still have my freesat channels so I won't have blank screens, just no Tubridy, O'Connor or bloody Gay Byrne.

How have people reacted in NI to BBC2 going off air ?

Does this number include people with UPC broadband who get analog ?

Everyone knows that being Irish people will wait till the last moment.

Still confusion out there about which box to get if you want anything other than Irish channels. Our history of cable/satellite ownership indicates that UK channels are considered essential for the vast majority.

( Especially if you can get signal from NI/Wales or live in the North and can picky up ROI signal )

Far too many non-approved boxes. Fine as long all the retailers and installers don't sell them as being fully compatible and offer no quibble refunds should it turn out they are incompatible later on, but we've seen Homebond refusing to cover the pyrites debacle, we're living with the consequences of bank non-regulation.

If I have a Saorview box I don't want RTE to pull the plug on new features just because retailers made a quick buck on MPEG4 decoders.

Also there are better boxes on the Horizon.
From 2013 aren't our boxes supposed to have T2 tuners ?
Will combo boxes (Sat/DTT) ever support 7 Day EPG for both UK and ROI ?
Proper Saorview PVR box that doesn't cost more than a pair of recording Saorview boxes.
    Will any ?

At present a second sky box and saorview box is the easiest to manage, no retuning and it just works, you need two remotes, the SKY one will manage most TVs.

Boxes like the Ferguson Ariva 150 look very attractive if you don't need PVR / EPG / teletext (fine if you have broadband) and don't mind retuning every so often. Probably a better choice than a generic brand since Ferguson seem to provide regular firmware updates and respond to customer queries. The missing features are mostly software and certification so is there a possibilty they will appear in the future ?
