    1) if a case went to court for say a traffic offensive where there was no evidence such as camera etc.

if it was 50/50 i.e one opinion vs another, who would the judge side with ?

    2) most gardai are great with myself, never real problems with the lads,

but why are there a small amount of guards that are just w*nkers that feel a need to prove themselves ?

    3) why do parking wardens send out letters for fines as garda letters ?

received one myself for parking on a path.... i was parked out of everyone's way (against a wall and still loads of room to fit a bus on the path never mind people with prams etc.) and there absolutely nowhere else to park ! even the garage was full..... reason for needing the car so close rather than up the road is im deliver food for the take away, and crossing the road takes long enough, never mind walking up the road just to get the car !

    cheers !

    1. You would need to ask a judge

    2. That is your perception, not mine

    3. Park correctly and you won't receive any letters

The limerick Garda who left and then wrote the article about how tough things are for you guys, is the article an accurate representation of the facts?

Are things really that bad for you guys at the moment?

And does it dishearten you when you catch someone robbing or doing something really bad, And they get a suspended sentenceor something ridiculously lenient?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

What type of arrest quotas do Gardai have?

Also say for example the traffic corp, if they're down there few traffic violations qouta for the month do they make things up or give out very soft traffic offenses?

I don't think things are quite that bad. We must remember his background. The cuts are hurting though. Yes it is disheartening some of the sentences handed out

How come no Garda has taken it upon themselves to arrest any bankers or TDs who so obviously broke several laws ?

Do you have a quota for parking/speeding tickets? & if so, do you get a bonus based on quantity?

How do we know you're a real Garda ?

Can you point to the statute where you consider the law broken ? No there isn't a quota or bonus.

Are most guards willing/trained to lie in court to get there prosecution?

Background: While driving I had the window wound down in slow moving traffic and I had my hand pressed against my head.
Garda though I was talking on a mobile phone while driving and stopped me and proceeded to give me to 5 minutes of abuse (wish I had recorded it) re using mobile phones while driving.
He even said I was too slow to stop because I was busy talking on the phone.
I objected and made I clear im going to court over it. I told the guard to write down the exact time when I was stopped. Court day arrived and I lost the case. I had phone my records making it clear I wasn’t talking on the phone at the time.
Funny thing is that my solicitor said just before the case was heard that if the guard really wants to win he'll say the phone was out in front of me as if im reading a text message.
The first thing the guard said in court - phone was clearly in front of me...

Now this is a small traffic issue, nothing major, but if a guard is willing to lie in front of a court over something so small it begs the question what else are they willing to lie about to win there case.

Flash the badge at certain night clubs and you'll get in for free, also there's Gyms that do Garda specials, Credit unions use to just hand out loans too if you had a badge.

Didnt I hear that traffic corp have a quota though of traffic violations they must hand out?

What happens when the Garda Ombudsman finds against a Garda? Like that the Garda should have prosecuted a certain person who committed a crime but didn't so the victim didn't get any justice so to speak? Are the Gardaí obliged to revisit the case and go with the Garda Ombudsman's direction??

I will take it that you are genuine and fair play for putting yourself out there - Unfortunately you are likely to get hit with the usual angst and attitude.

My question is - can you be done for speeding where a Garda is using a hand held camera only and does not stop the offending motorist?

There seems to be some urban legends out there about this - can you clarify?

    Thanks

Yes you can if you are breaking the speed limit

Is there not an issue that the Garda must stop the motorist if the offence is recorded using a handheld as opposed to a tripod mounted speed camera?

The issue is with older models that don't hold the data. In that case the speeding motorist would need to be stopped.

If I am travelling in 80km road and want to overtake a line of slow moving cars or tractors will I get done for speeding if I overtake them.

Do you think all Gardai should be routinely armed nowadays ?
