Hey, I need some advice if that's ok.

I finished school around 2010 (leaving cert) anyway since then have had very little job opportunities I used to work weekends in a shop but since the economy has gone bad, The boss decided I was no longer needed there. So I worked for the post office but that was only a 6 week arrangement.

Anyway, I have very little skills (only my leaving cert which is not that impressive either) I'm just at a point where I am totally confused about what to do in life now and i'v started to just kinda give up..

i'v been offically unemployed for about a year and a half now, I was thinking of going to college but i'm not sure how it would all work out financially?

    Anyone got any suggestions?

Chin up! It will all work out ok.
College is a great idea even if it means resitting the LC. Your course choice is important, no point doing a course to just pass time. Make sure there are jobs etc in that area.

Could you do a Fas course, the ECDL or something similar and then you would have more opportunties to get work.

If you're still living at home, you could have a good chance of going to college if you can get a grant. I get my fees (except for my college gym membership and student union charge, which add up to €85) paid and I get ~€1200 to live on throughout the year. Since I don't have to pay rent or bills it's totally doable. Of course, you'd have to be eligible.

You could also look into doing FÁS courses, which are a great way of skilling up and keeping yourself busy while you're not working.

In the meantime, don't stop looking for work, it's all about perseverance. Keep updating and polishing your CV, keep coming up with new strategies for finding work. It took me a very very long time to find a job after secondary school. It can be so hard looking for work when you've no experience, and the constant competition for jobs can really wear you down. But the longer you look, the more likely it is that you'll find something. The place where I work now hired me pretty much during my interview, because he said he remembered me from the two other times I'd been for interviews there for other jobs. I've a friend who applied there at the same time I first applied, and never applied for further jobs there because she figured if they rejected her once, she had no chance.

    Hiya,

Maybe you could look into doing a PLC course in something that you're interested in. They are much cheaper than University fees and it would give you an idea of whether you like the subject. Also, many PLC's have links to Higher Education courses.

I have always wanted to be a garda, But with all the cutbacks and lack of recruitement, For now it looks very doubtful which is a real shame as I always had that in mind.

''Could you do a Fas course, the ECDL or something similar and then you would have more opportunties to get work. ''

I have done 2 computer courses in Fas and I have also attended obair for a 6 week course on jobs and cv's and stuff.

''Have you done or could you do volunteer work? '' I have looked in to 'order of Malta' charity but I only recieve 60 euro job seekers allowance so it would be very tricky financially.. I mean even in an average week I run out of money very quickly and I don't drink or smoke..
