    Help requested on this one:
I've searched online for solutions to this and all come back with the following solution:
    .
    Start the computer.
As the computer starts, press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
Press the down arrow to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, then press Enter.
Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
    Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
Click to select the check box for Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition.
Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.
When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

Except on mine when I press F8 on start-up I don't have the option to "Repair Your Computer"
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

Are you getting a screen like this
    2011-12-21_050924_last-known-good.gif

    Instead of this?
    Vista-image-restore-image-F8-Dell.jpg

Or are you getting a different screen completely?

Also, what OS are you running? XP, Vista, Windows 7?

What model is it? An inspiron 1521, 1525 etc..
An alternative to F8 can also be Ctrl+F11

Yep, same as the top picture. Running Windows Vista. Inspiron 1545.

Has your Laptop ever been formatted before, or hard drive replaced?

    Nope, original hard-drive and format.

Try Pressing F12 before BIOS message. Sometimes that gives a hidden one-time boot menu. It's been a while since i've done it, but i think the main keys to access the menu depending on the model are:

    F12
    F8
    Alt + F10
    Ctrl + F11

This should help you if you can't access the tools needed to restore to factory state.

    Create a Recovery Disk.

Managed to get a few options from the F12 option, one of which was the option to boot from a CD/DVD. Will see how that goes, Thanks.
