Combined Stereo and Bluetooth or Separate?

I'm planning on upgrading the stereo in the car and was thinking of getting a unit that includes bluetooth, as it would be more straightforward to install than buying a separate bluetooth handsfree system.

However, do these combined systems work as well as a dedicated bluetooth system? I'm thinking of getting a unit that has a microphone that can be positioned at a location of my choosing in the car rather than a stereo that has a built in microphone.

You can get microphones for the car ones too, which work very, very well.

I'd be buying the stereo, car dependent.

Very easy whip the stereo out when you're changing car, too.

When I was having my system put in the bloke in the shop made a good point. Parrot specialise in hands free blue tooth and pioneer in stereos. As such, I bought both separately

I have a pioneer double din unit with Bluetooth, and it works very well. As clear as any fully installed kit I had before. Separate mic up in the headlining and it's great. Have used it with a HTC and an iPhone.

The unit I'm looking at is a Pioneer and the spec states it's got bluetooth by Parrot, so they're probably licencing and using Parrots technology, which is what would sway me in it's direction. However, good point about buying each product from the manufacturer that specializes in it. Decisions, decisions,...

Combined comes into its own if you want to play music from your phone through your stereo too, no pissing about with cables. Make sure it supports A2DP.
