Saorview box hdmi out to PC monitor/ laptop screen possible?

I've been trawling the web for an answer to this so replies great appreciated. If I were to buy a saorview set top box with a hdmi out option, could I connect that to the flatscreen computer monitor? Or how about a spare laptop I have lying about? Hopefully is doable? Thanks in advance for any answers!

Vision VST8010 into a HP L2045w monitor works fine using a DVI - HDMI adaptor.
HDMI 1080i does NOT work. (get two images)

DVI to HDMI - at the monitor end you have to remove the analog pins with a needle nose pliars - ie. the flat plate and the 4 pins around it

Computer screens don't usually do 50Hz properly, quality will be poor.
Cheapest solution (with poorer picture than a TV due to 25fps interlace -> 50fps progressive de-interlace --> 50fps to 60fps conversion) is a DTT stick on the laptop, if the graphics card GPU is powerful enough for HD 25fps H.264 interlace. About €12 to €20.

There is no sensible way to feed HDMI into a laptop. Computer monitors are marginal for US TV (30fps / 60Hz) and poor for European TV (25fps / 50Hz). No computer screen does 576i and hardly any do interlace, so everything has to be converted to 1080p60fps with varying loss of quality.
