I've an ex-girlfriend (by distance not choice :pac:) living in Washington State just north of Oregon, I can't recommend bars, but I can say, you can bring Everclear back in your bag if you wrap it well :)

Ok, if you're in portland, Burnside is the area with the best bars.
And the bar with the best Beers is the Deschutes Brewery pub, it's two blocks north of Powells Books on north west 11th ave.

    here

The other side of the river and a bit of a trek away there is a bar called apex with 50 beers on tap and countless bottles.

    here

There are probably about 50 really good craft beer pubs and brewpubs in the city, there are all over the place, but those two were my favourite.

    Protip:
When in portland, take the bridge to Vancouver, Washington and go here

    Henry's Tavern on 12th.
Over 200 beers on tap and fantastic food.

Red Star Tavern on Southwest Alder Street is a good spot too.

To be honest, Portland is the Mecca for beer drinkers.
I hate you for going there. It's been too long since I've been there. :(

I did a trip down the west coast and bought this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Good-Beer-Guide-West-Coast/dp/1852492449/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350169799&sr=1-1

Wife doesn't even drink beers, but we always went to pubs from it and they were always the best pubs in the area. They recommend a beer or 2 in each pub too. Really good book.
