Hi all. Was out cycling today without glasses on and got something in my eye, it's still there and hurts like hell. Tried Optrex eye baths but no good, anybody got any tips please?! I suppose I should invest in some glasses (not sunglasses) to prevent this. Are they readily available?

OP, get specialist medical attention if your eye problem persists. No medical advice is allowed here. It's fine to seek advice on cycling glasses though

You've likely got a corneal foreign body or a subtarsal foreign body. Either way, a bit of topical anaesthesia, and it'll be taken out easily. The defect will heal quickly.

Keep washing it and get someone to blow in it and see if it comes out.

Do any of you wear 'safety' glasses as associated with work etc??? No major make or model but just does the simple job of protecting your eyes from flying stones and debris!!!

matt more than likely a fly got in you eye sting like crazy ,you might thing this crazy but it works put a warm (ISH) teabag over your eye and leave it there for a few hours, old wives tale but what even is in the tea draws anything out.
when you better buy a pair of safety glasses in woodies.;)

Thanks for this, luckily when I woke the next day it was much easier, felt like dust as opposed to a stone!, can't feel a thing now.

Think i'll go for Meercats McQuillans tools safety specs suggestion!, can't be throwing my money away on Oakleys at the minute!

    Thanks all

+1 Okley M Frames with heater lenses, all the way.

OP, make sure you have a lens that has a large surface area, like the heaters. If you can see the frame, then you are not maximizing your field of view. Seeing frames = not seeing potential dangers.

Also, don't go cheap. Lenses can cause eye fatigue and strain, especially for mileage junkies. Parents should never let their children wear those cheap warped kiddie glasses you often see children wearing.

Get over the sticker shock and get a set of Oakleys. I would suggest the yellow lenses for foggy days, dusk, dawn, and nighttime rides.

If you are looking for sunglasses, get a pair of polarized lenses. Just don't wear them when riding in frosty conditions as I believe it is harder to see ice with polarized sunglasses.

I wouldn't go with the fancy coatings on the lenses either. If I am correct, on a standard lenses, there is a scratch guarantee, which is not available on the iridium and like coatings.

Or for dull days and dark evenings, http://is.gd/0wRcfV - about €11, robust and not obviously safety specs.
