Opel Astra Club_Timing Belt

    Hi all,
    I own a Opel Astra Club 1.4.
I got it in second hand, and so far so good... but because the car is from 2006 I believe its getting the time to change the timing belt. Inspecting the belt it look fairly new, but there are no dates written on the belt (I was told to look for that)... On the service history on the car there are stamps but no detail of what was done... so I suppose it was not replaced.

How should I know if it does need replaced?

    Thanks

2006 1.4 Astra has a timing chain. I suspect that the belt you are inspecting is the alternator belt.

    Thanks for reply George,

ahh.. so does this mean it does not require replacement? The Timing chain?
Not sure if it matters but this is a petrol car..

    This alternator belt needs replacement?

Timing chains don't have any replacement schedule.

The belt you are looking at should be inspected at every service and replaced when any wear(cracking, thread wear etc) is found.

    Thanks for replies..
I might get it serviced a bit earlier... just to be on the safe side.

Reason is that there is a small squiking sound coming out of it... mainly when the car is cold...
In my ignorance sound like when you put a bit of oil or someting like that it would go away.. :P

Don't put any oil on a rubber belt whatever you do anyway:eek:

I don't mean to sound offensive, but get it looked by someone who actually knows what they're doing.

To confirm if the squeaking is coming from the polly belt / fan belt, start the engine and spray a *little* wd40 on the belt. If the noise goes or changes note, then your belt is the problem. Have it changed and inspect all other pulleys for play / noise when the belt is removed.
