I was considering a 2.2, the only issue I found was that they are a little tight in the rear seat and the boot is smaller versus an A6 or 5 series. The 2.7 is a good engine, but the 3.0 launched in 2008 is meant to be a lot nicer. Seems to be real value with them now so probably a much better buy than anything in that class.

I was in one of these a few weeks ago and found it very cramped in the back compared to an A6 I was in a week later.

Also found it a very bumpy ride.

other than service history for piece of mind very little ....check if transmission module has been changed as all of these should have been replaced under warranty. good luck with it...lovely car.

Try and get the 3.0d, it is more powerful, fuel efficent and cheaper to tax than the older 2.7d.

    Some useful info here: http://www.xfforum.co.uk/forums/37-Thinking-about-buying-an-XF..................Ask-a-question-here.

You'll find that a lot of people will recommend not buying one in the first year of their manufacture. Problems with the fuel filler cap and gear selector can be common. A lot seem to suffer from rust on the bootlid where the chrome strip touches the paint. This should be fixed under warranty but just stuff to look out for. They are generally considered a reliable car though and I would have one over an A6 or 5 series if rear space wasn't an issue. And as bazz26 mentioned, go for the 3.0D over the 2.7D. Faster, more economical and cheaper to tax. This also means it will hold its value better.

I do love these cars. Starting to see them for 15 grand now. Massive depreciation. The 3.0 TD is only 600+ a year to tax.

From the 2011 facelift onwards it's €481 for the 3.0 diesel:).

I'd much rather one over a 5 series to be honest, a pity that there's so few of them around.

Although, they will hopefully sell more of them now that the 2.2 diesel is in tax band B for 2013 model year cars (well for now, maybe not depending on what happens in the budget), so €225 tax instead of €330 too for the four cylinder! They should be able to lower the price as well, although we'll have to see what happens if VRT changes in the budget.

    Really???.

I would have one any day over a boring old A6 or E class.

I think a lot of the appeal is that there are so few about. Although as you say they will probably become a lot more common with low road tax on the new 2.2.

The 2.2 is known to be a bit underpowered though and imo doesn't look right with just one exhaust visible from the rear. I spoke to a Jaguar salesman a few months ago who sold a brand new 2.2 to a customer. The customer then spent over €1100 getting a 2nd tail pipe branching out from the original and cutting the rear bumper to accommodate it.

Maybe the flexible section of the downpipe (or both downpipes) is split:it is a very common issue with the 2.7s.
The downpipe alone is about €1100+VAT (includes the cat as well)...I've sold about 6-7 of those in the past year.
Make sure that those were replaced at some stage,as the new part is modified,so it will more likely last longer.
Other than that the parts prices are not too bad (especially compared to the older S-Types or X-Types) :a front shock is roughly €120+VAT,a front lower wishbone around 200 etc.

Vrt would be 7 odd grand, bringing it up to normal xf 2.7 price

    Thanks
Downpipe and Cat is expensive, especially if it is failing that soon.
Are Jag contributing anything to that?
What is the expected life Jag advise for wishbones and shocks?

What is the expected life Jag advise for wishbones and shocks?

Well, that depends on many factors:road quality (or the lack of it),wheel and tyre size, driving style, but it seems to be better than S-Types and X-Types.

The exhaust section between the manifold (or turbo) and centre box.

The Jag XF 2.7 TDV6 downpipe looks like this:

Note the small flexible section at the top.

    Yup scam:
ry for my late reply but I was out for the weekend. My car is still for sale. A great car, never implied in any accident, in excellent condition with full service history.I have changed my job and now I have to sell it as I've got a new job in Hungary. The car is here as well. The final price is 10.000 € + shipping to your door. For an accurate shipping cost please include your shipping address in your next email.(shipping will be no more than 300€).
As you probably noticed, the price is rather low. But since it's a right hand drive car, not even a dealer will offer me a better price here. The fact that it's still Ireland registered did not help either. I am the registered keeper and there is no outstanding finance on the vehicle. The car is in excellent condition, the bodywork is immaculate, no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition.
Due to amount involved and due the fact I am not located in Ireland anymore, I only accept transaction through eBay.
Please email me soon if you want to move forward and let me know if you need anything else.
