    Hello I am thinking of putting a four wheel drive axle on a massey ferguson 2wd and i was wondering would a mf 290 on 390 axle suit and what other parts would I need thank you.

    your going to have to change the front axle carrier for either axle,a 290 axle is a centre drive you will have to change the backend centre housing to suit the dropbox,for a 390 axle you will have to change the spacer and whatever gears are needed,a 390 axle should have a better lock or at least the later ones had.it could be a better idea to buy a 4wd tractor.

    A MF 590 may suit you better, alot of work involved- not worth it in my opinion ,
