Hey guys, 1st post in ere as a non golfer, my father plays though does that count:rolleyes:
Anyway all im really wondering has anybody played the new course at Lough erne recently, is it standing the test of time? any damp/wet spots subsidence anywhere etc? any problems in general noticed?

Why i ask is i worked on the construction of the course for circa 3 years and some of the deep bunkers and difficult shapes you golfers curse from time to time some can be accredited to me lol

Regardless i would appreciate your opinions and thoughts on the course in general, i must try to dig out a few photos for ye during the construction........not pretty to say the least it was an unbelievably difficult tract of land !!!

Just watching the Six one news yesterday evening and they were reporting that Lough Erne will be the venue for the upcoming G8 summit. They showed the resort etc. As they panned around the building and the environs I noticed a statue at the front of the hotel.

Having never been there I was just wondering....is that really a statue of Faldo?

Ok I know he designed the course but...a statue???

Yep, plenty of places doing it. Arnold Palmer at Tralee, Seve at Heritage - as per Greebo's comment - Payne Stewart at Waterville (although that's slightly different circumstances), as well as Faldo and Christy O'Connor Jr at Amendoiera in Portugal.

I guess so. For some reason I just always felt that a statue was more in way of remembering someone when they shuffle off.

Plus when I hear Faldo commentating on the US golf for some reason it doesnt seem to fit with having a statue in his honour, especially as all the world leaders converge on it for a summit :-)

I wonder will they all gather around it for a group photo?

Statue of Nicklaus at the back of the back markers on the 1st at Killeen Castle. Probably deserves it with 18 majors in fairness.

The Harrington Room at Stackstown is a bit of a similar deal, in terms of honouring someone before they've actually croaked it.

If a club produces a really good pro I think they should honour him. I think Esker Hills have a fair bit dotted around for Shane Lowrey and that's only right. If a club produces a golfer like Paddy, they'd be utterly insane not to have a few things to honour him!

They do indeed. There's a fantastic photo of him after his final putt dropped at the Irish Open.
