    Hi Folks,

Need a new set of tyres for a VW Touran 205/55 R16, used for the family, clearly not for racing!

Have Michelin Primacy HP on and faring well to date.
Best offer I can see at the moment for supply and fit, not online as needed tomorrow is Bridgestone Turanza T001 4 fitted, balanced, new valve for 86 a piece.

Any thoughts on how they might compare to the Michelins or any other recommendation.

    Thanks,
    MAJJ

That is not a bad price for Bridgestones in that size imo. Bridgestones would be considered at the mid range of premium brands, just below the likes of Michelins. Did you get a quote for the Michelins? I would bet you would struggle to buy them for less than €100 a corner in that size.

The Turanzas will more than do the job on a Touran.

I can get Michelin Primacy EP for 105 with a 10 discount of fuel voucher from Michelin, so 95 per corner.
Any thoughts on the 95 for Michelin Primacy EP for 105 versus Bridgestone Turanza T001 for 86.

    Thanks

    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Bridgestone/Turanza-T001.htm

The bridgestones seem to have much better ratings for the wet and dry grip which for me would be enough of a reason to pick them over the Michelin.

Couldn't find the primacy EP's so guessing the HP's are pretty close?

If you are happy with the Primacys then I'd go with them again.

I can't find primacy EP's so I suspect he meant HP's, I will check and post up what I got and any feedback.

    Thanks

The Turanza is a good tyre and seems to last forever. I know of someone who has them from new on 2007 and only half worn and 40,000 miles.

    How cheap are we talking?
For the sake of your car avoid anything chinese.

What is wrong with the chinese ones. I have never had a branded tyre on the car. What are the 30 euro ones like.

Poor quality, resulting in poor grip on the road.

Given they are what are between you and keeping you on the road, spend a bit of money and get decent tyres.

    Mother of god.

Yet apparently it's speed and male drivers that are killing people

Probably someone who never checks their tyre pressure, oil and water levels too?

    kuhmo ecsta
great tyres good prices better than bridgestones in all weathers

my opinion but my daily is a 2.2 doing 205bHP and my weekend is 3.3 doing enough that i'm not easy on tyres

I'm not a speeder. I hardly ever go over 80. What do you recommend

I recommend you get some decent tyres and start driving at the appropriate speed limits, and not annoying every other road user by needlessly going 20km/h+ lower than the speed limit.

Tyres for a punto are cheap, there's no reason not to get decent quality ones.

Do you know the tyre pressure for your car?

Regardless of being a speeder and hardly ever going over 80, in wet weather you could easily go into a bad skid on a turn, and rubbish tyres could kill you.

Slightly offtopic, do different tyres measure distances differently?

It is my experience that they seem to. My 16'' winters seem to read distances longer than my 18'' summers

Well the roads I drive on are only 80 max.

I'm not being smart with you I just asked you a question.

Anyway, any decent branded tyre is better than the chinese ones.

Hankooks tend to be recommended on price here.

If you can't afford good quality new branded tyres you could try tyreland for good quality part worns if you are in Dublin

Well I did suggest Hankooks, which are not exclusive to Dublin?

Shop around your local tyre shops and see if any of them have them?
What car is it for and what size tyres?

You can also check out the likes of eire tyres who deliver?

You should get decent tyres fitted for a punto for about €300 I'd imagine.

A good idea is to get your tracking checked everytime you give the car in for a service, it will ensure the tyres wear evenly allowing for you to get a longer life out of them. If you drive anywhere there is potholes this is important.

Craughwell tyres get partworns in from time to time.

Im sure you can get reasonable new ones for around 50/60 if ya ring around also. They are the most thing on a car you dont want to cheap out on.

After reading a story in the indo last week I would never go part worn again. 51% of the tyres bought in a sample of 125 were unfit for purpose. One was even over 20 years old!

I had a pair of brand new BF Goodrich on my old Skoda a few years ago. They didn't go around corners in the wet - absolutely appalling. Several of my colleagues had similar and found the same. It's not only second-hand tyres and Chinese tyres that can be lethal.

    Hi Folks,

    As promised.
Been driving these for a few weeks ,Bridgestone Turanza T001, driven on a motorway lots, mud covered country roads, all types of roads. So far so good, road noise no different, grip is good. About all I can say as not an expert.

    Thanks,
    MAJJ

I know the branded v Chinese debate has been well covered on boards but just wanted to throw in my experience.

I have a 998cc polo for pottering around and it had old 5 years random unbranded tyres on it. They were recommended by a tyre center. Ordered 4 good years for the car. Cost a total of €20 then going for wanlee from fast fit. Completely transformed the car. Feels like it is connected to the road now. I always buy unbranded stuff but never again for tyres.
