Well my initial 12month contract is up with Sky and I'd like some advice from the forum as to whats my bast option to continue with regards a new deal, happy enough with service etx but the multi room is expensive our current pricing is e33 + e15 multiroom discount (i've two additional boxes one in kids playroom, other in master bedroom) the thought of paying e30 for the multiroom is my main bugbear, any advice would I be as well to quit and resign under wifes name, cancel the lot (i've two freesat boxes also on the go 1 in main living room, 1 in kids playroom) any advice appreciated

    Hi Bob,

Nearly in a similar position to yourself. I rang Sky up and asked what they could offer me to renew my contract. They offered me €6 a month discount for 6 months, which I said I'd think about. You may be able to ring and negotiate something better than that if you renew contract.

not a great offer really, had two sky reps at the door in the last few weeks but hard to know if to trust them or not? I'd be happy to continue to pay the current rate I'm on but dont want to show my hand with sky, you'd think after only 12months and with the amount of equipment they had to install customer retention of new clients would be parramount to try get back some of that investment

Threaten to quit. Best way to get an offer off of Sky. Done it a few times and got half price sky for 6 months to a year each time. :)

Call up UPC and tell them you want to switch and get their best deal. Whatever they come back with - tell them Sky is giving you that until you get the best you can.

Then inform Sky you want to notify them of intention to cancel and that NTL are giving you a better deal. They won't want to lose a paying customer. They will most likely match it or beat it. Play them off against one another.

All UPC & Sky marketing are interested in is new customers... use that to your benefit.

Last year I got tv half price for 4 months - sky sports free for 2 months and x off my broadband for the year by doing this.

Just to clarify-do ye say "Hi, my name is X, and I'd like to leave Sky" and hope they bend or do ye say "Hi, I'm weaving Sky unless I get a better deal" and demand a better deal?

You should ring in and threaten to cancel and see how you get on. Worse that can happen is they wont make you an offer and will proceed with the cancellation. They do however generally make an offer at this point and if they do and if you haggle a bit you will get a better deal.

In the unlikely event that they dont make an offer (or an acceptable one) at cancellation stage you will still have your channels for the following 30 days and there's every chance that they will call you and make an offer during that period. But if they dont call you back ring in again before the 30 days are up and ask again for an offer. If they still dont give one you can say you changed your mind about cancelling and wish to remain as a subscriber.

I called and asked what the leaving procedure was, and they put me in touch with the customer retention department. I then got various calls over the next few weeks - each time offering me more.

    That's exactly right.

Go as fas as leaving them for some reason like you're moving away for a few months due to work and they'll do almost anything to keep the account open.

I was on all basic channel packs plus HD pack. Think it cost €48 per month which they discounted ti €32 per month for six months when i said i was leaving. I decided to leave sky for real last month. They offered to extend above offer and in the end also offered me €50 credit to my account. I still left. Sky service ended last week. Still have most of the UK channels i used to watch! Going to buy a 1TB G2 Humax Freesat when they are released next month. Also have VPN Netflix and watch USA netflix. Free from sky subscriptions!!

well, no easy deal, was originally offered the 2nd multi room at half price and said no, usual off to check with manager, so ended up with same deal of one multibox sub (but with two boxes) and main sub so e48 per month as before and I'm happy enough with that for now, out of contract too so might consider leaving anyhow in the new year
