Evans boots: true to size?

    Hi everyone,

Apologies for making yet another boots thread, but I have recently spotted these boots in Evans:

    http://www.evans.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=25&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33054&storeId=12553&productId=6614948&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=209459&parent_categoryId=209435&pageSize=24

and I really like them, with the lacing up the back. However, I have never bought boots in Evans before and unfortunately my local branch doesn't have them in stock (it's a tiny shop) so I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether, in general, Evans boots tend to run on the big or small side, before I take the plunge and buy them online? The issue is complicated by the fact that I wear orthotic insoles, which usually means I have to wear slightly bigger shoes to accommodate them comfortably, and hence why I was so excited to see that Evans stock them in sizes 9 & 10! Usually I find a size 8 in a lot of brands (e.g. Blowfish, Hush Puppies, Schuh own brand, Red or Dead, Skechers and so on) is too small for me, but these brands would usually have an EU 41 as the equivalent of a UK size 8, whereas I think an EU 42 would do me.

I'm a walking disaster. Any insights would be hugely appreciated!

    G

I picked up 2 pairs of boots yesterday in Liffey Valley. Evans shoes/boots are mainly a EEE fit so tend to be a wide fitting.

The leather pair I had to go down a size, they are not also fully knee high. I would say they are about 2'in below my knee. In fact most of the leather books seemed to be a little shorted this year. http://www.evans.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33054&storeId=12553&productId=5969788&langId=-1&s

While with this pair I took my normal size. http://www.evans.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33054&storeId=12553&productId=6221888&langId=-1&s

Boot Doctor to the rescue! (errr...me :))

There used to be an Evans in my city centre (long gone however) and I know that from looking there that their shoe/boot sizes were definitely on the wider scale.

You say size 8 is usually too small for you so if you are sold on getting these boots I'd definitely go for the 9 if you're quite sure they'd be the better size (with the ortho insoles you wear to take into consideration).

If they turn out a bit too big don't forget you will likely be wearing socks too!
Double up on them for fit and comfort if necessary!
The worst thing is getting a size too small and not allowing for insoles/socks etc.

Me, personally, I always get boots/shoes that can be worn with socks,
    in the next size up.
As for sandals/going out shoes I get my usual, so-called size but as for 'actual' sizes, those things with a number - there are few that are true.

I'm obsessive about footwear and recently in a shop I pointed out to the owner how between two pairs of identical boots, the heels on one were just under a cm lower than on the others.
They were as I say IDENTICAL boots but from two different manufacturers. I notice it all the time with widths too.

Enjoy your boots! Post back if you get them!

ps: you might be able to return them to an Evans store in Ireland (if there are any left) for free of charge if they didn't fit well, read their t's&c's, you never know! Barratts and their ascosciated companies do!

Better go. I AM obsessed aren't I? haha

Evans run true to size (especially for me with my stupid wide feet), the extra width would probably accommodate your insoles. They'd be a 42 instead of a 41 in my experience. I'm the same as you, I'm a 42 but a load of shops mark a 41 as an 8! Urgh!

Also this probably goes without saying but Evans boots are made with a wider calf than normal boots. I just thought I'd throw that out there since you said you've never bought any there before.

Do NOT size up in the boots in case you get them and they're hanging off you. Blister city. Could you try on a different pair in your local branch ? csi vegas is right about returns though, you can bring them into store and be refunded no problem which is really handy.

Thanks for that, especially the thing about them being not-quite knee high. I am quite tall so I suppose they definitely wouldn't be knee-high on me, but i don't especially mind that. Good to have the heads up anyway.

Thanks :D I also love boots but seeing how tricky I am in terms of sizes/feet in general it's unusual that I would find a pair I both really like & that actually come in my size! I do usually wear chunky socks with my boots, and if I could try them on I would be bringing the socks with me, it's important to get it as accurate as possible. I am living in the UK at the moment so I'll double-check their T&Cs regarding returns, I'd be returning them to my local branch here in England rather than a store in Ireland.

Thanks for the heads-up re: the wide calf. I don't have an especially wide calf but the pair I'm interested in do at least have lacing at the back, which hopefully means I'd be able to tighten them to whatever degree I like, bearing in mind that I also wear chunky, long socks with boots usually :) When you say that they'd be a 42, do you mean that the size 8 would be a 42? I suspect that's the size I'd need, and at the mo the size 8 is out of stock :o:(

Just as a general note, I noticed after I'd posted the thread that Evans have a really comprehensive sizing guide, where they give you the actual dimensions of their sizing and get you to measure your feet to ensure you get the right size :o So I'll give that a go, and also measure the insoles as well.

Thanks all! Any more perspectives welcome of course :)

I'm a 5 & bought size 5s in Evans last year & they're swimming on me. It might be because they're a wide fit & my feet aren't particularly wide but I definitely found them big fitting. But it will probably vary from boot to boot unfortunately :/

    Hi again Gutenberg,

to save you on the p&p (if there is any for you, living in the UK as you say) and/or the wait, you could probably order from their website and have them delivered to your nearest store.

As in...I did this with Clarks' website, I ordered two different sizes in one style and two sizes in another style, free of charge.
I was going to The UK and it all worked out very nicely for me when I got there!
Or you could phone the nearest store with the item number/style and voila! :)
