    It was an interesting interview.

While he has to be congratulated on building Europe's biggest Lo-Cost airline, he has destroyed the career of "airline pilots" in the process, not to mention cabin attendants, check in staff etc.

I would hate to see him take control of EI.

To be fair he didn't force anybody to work for them

You say that, but only last year Aer Lingus pilots were threatening to strike unless they got the same kind of roster patterns that Ryanair pilots had. So they can't be all that bad...

On the contrary he has created thousands of jobs across Europe that EI wouldn't or couldn't. They only had about 50 years start on him.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

MOLs pilots are paid by the block hour through an agency. If you don't fly then you don't get paid. He doesn't care if he has a surplus of pilots since he doesn't have to pay have them unless they are flying. Hence he could offer them a 5 on 10 off if he really wanted to. He would need more pilots on the agencies books though in order to cover the roster. Of course the reality is that he couldn't get enough pilots to work for him as he is losing them to the ME at the moment since they are quite poorly paid for the most part. But you get the gist of his business plan.

AL pilots on the other hand pushed for a fixed pattern roster in order to avoid fatigue and so that we could get control of our lives. During last summer we were working any myriad of patterns that the company chose. Normally something like 5 on 2 off followed by 5 on 1 off.

Considering the majority of the FR staff are contractors/agency from pilots,CC, to ground crew with no job security or even guaranteed working hours per week,Im sure most people would rather work for an employer who pays a basic wage with OT etc.

I watched the most of the interview but when the mention of MOL backing the Stability Treaty Referendum was mentioned. I figured that the interview was from last May and switched off as the interview was almost 6 month out of date.

Haven' watched the full interview yet but its much more recent than that, sure they mentioned the three emergency landings in Valencia which took place on July 26th

    How long was the interview?
I only watched the 4 mins about the Valencia landings on Youtube, can't access iPlayer and proxy wouldn't work for me

The chickens are coming home to roost. He cut the terms and conditions of his "contract" staff, the Brookfield pilots and the cabin crew and the engineers, right to the bone, so that it's penal to work for Ryanair and then he started doing the same trick to the permanent staff and they have left in droves. Clearly, contract law has no place in Ryanair. As for pilot rosters in both FR and EI, the management chopped and changed the rosters as they felt like it and the result was disgruntled staff trying to leave. The EI pilots roster has always been a curates egg, good in parts but there are times when it's been clearly picked out of a hat, but at least EI pilots have some ability to use force to get it changed. FR pilots have none and are unable to exert any real pressure.

Plus a lot of the experienced lads heading for the sand pit they call both carriers from the ME the Ryanair express due to the amount of them heading there.
