I can get my hands on lamb & pig hearts off a local lad, what would yer opinion be of feeding them to the dogs maybe twice a week?

There shouldn't be a problem feeding hearts, most days my dogs food would have some form of organ meat in it wheather it be liver/tongue/heart..etc..however I have read that it is recommended to freeze pigs organs for a period of time due to possible parasites. Not on the laptop at the min so can't post material.

My lab bitch gets a lambs heart most days, funny enough heart meat is actually classified as a muscle meat as opposed to an organ meat.

There are often weeks were my bitch would get heart every day and her condition is a1. I have just found a supplier of chicken carcasses so ill be mixing it up a bit more from now on.

As a side note, don't bother with cutting up the heart - feed it whole, the effort of the dog breaking it down itself is good for its jaws and teeth. Also, don't cook it just in case you were thinking that way.

Because the majority of the goodness and nutrients will be cooked out of them. Dogs do not naturally cook their food, so why would you do it for them?

I fed them hearts now last night, they did't stand looking at them for too long anyway :) The one thing the butcher said to me was that he doesn't get many fella's looking for the pig hearts, that they all seem to want the lambs.

I wonder is that something to do with the whole parasite thing??

That's because the lamb hearts are delight to eat for a light supper when fried with onions :):)
