i have an old boiler about 17 years old, heat is on timer, when it goes off boiler stays on and then just keeps going on and off randomly. My questions are

    1. as the boiler is doing this does that mean im using gas ?

2, whats causing it and a rough estimate to repair it ?.

    thanks guys:cool:

    Details tend to help!

    Boiler make, model etc?

Could be a number of things.

Firstly the boiler is wired with a permanent live which constanly suppies power for the pump overrun to prevent damage to the heat exchanger, this is a good thing.

Do you know if you have any motorised valves controlling your heating and water seperatley? If so one of the acctuators is faulty as these also have a permanent feed and if the contacts are sticking, they can override the timeclock causing the boiler to come on.

If not your timeclock could be faulty.

And once the boilere is fired by you or not, you are using gas

Rough estimate €60-€130 per acctuator depending if 3 port or 2 port and make and model, timeclock €45-€180 again depending on make and model and labour between €100 and €150
