    I'm going to try spruce up the kitchen on a budget. I'm getting the doors sprayed cream for free, all I have to buy is the paint and then will be painting the kitchen cabinets myself, my questions are;
    • What undercoat should I use
    • What colour should I paint the units?
    • What paint / brand should I use?

    Thanks in advance!

    used a dulux undercoat and a dulux satinwood top coat

    process was;

    sand
    undercoat
    light sand
    undercoat
    light sand
    top cover
    light sand
    top cover

    then some parts needed a 3rd coat. not too expensive but very time consuming, took 1 week to complete, the painting was a pain in the arse...paint costs were about 60 I think and then the counter top is from ikea, 3 lengths at 45 each...

    Great job!

    Did you spray paint units in situ or take them out?
    Which type dulux paints you use?
    What colour cream is it?

    Looks great!!

    Only had the doors sprayed - took them off and had them painted

    Went with the colour original cream (dulux satin wood)

    I bought one of these http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/decorating-sundries/abrasives/blocks___brushes/Oakey-Sanding-Block-Kit-9254918?skuId=9262617 and the variety pack that is in the same range and used all 3 varieties, the rough one first(50), then an undercoat, then the medium one(80) before the 2nd undercoat and again before the first coat of paint then the fine one (120) before the last coat... I think you can use a 200 grit one after this to get the finish "ulta smooth" but I didn't do this...

    It's not an easy job, pretty heart breaking trying to climb to the back of corner cupboards to paint them - I used a small roller for the first 3 coats and a paint brush for the final coat...

    Fabulous job, well done. Hope to do ours next year, will have to get someone in to do it, fairly large kitchen.

    How well did the paint job last?

    It lasted well, only problem I had was near the extractor fan, I didn't clean it properly in the first instance and the grease made the paint peel, striped the 2 panels down again and repainted, all good now..

    Good to hear thanks, I'm going to try it myself. Yours looks great.

    Carpenter recommended sanding (with a sanding sponge) and Bin primer, then paint with Colourtrend (but then texted me to not use Colourtrend)
