Las Vegas style Casinos in Ireland & the UK

In the past I could understand the objections against full legalised gambling.
Easy access to a vice which is known to be addictive was not desirable.
That position has been completely eroded by the success of online casinos & gambling sites.

Publicans make the argument that your far better regulating an alcoholic's intake in a pub rather having them necking whiskey at home.
Could the same argument no be made for addicted online gamblers ?.

People may say that normalising it will add to the problem but I believe that the horse has bolted.
The state may at least make some revenue from the activity & there should be a knock on benefit for the hotel industry.

Restrictions should be placed on licences so it's not a free for all & ensure it's done tastefully but I believe now is the correct time to bring forward the legislation.

Will there be strippers, showgirls and Billy Joel playing?
If so, I'm all for it.

I was in Vegas once during the good times and loved it. After a day touring and feasting we would sit down at the slots in the beginning and drink for free till the early hours. Then when trying to sleep you would have a jingle jingle noise in your head so when going for breakfast you would be tempted back gambling it worked. After getting advice from an ex gambler who was a bus driver that nobody makes money from slots and craps were better we started playing that and then roulette and then Blackjack. Didn't loose a whole pile but got rotten drunk every night for free. I don't like the online casinos though as you are playing a computer which i would think have lower odds than a Casino. Would big casinos be good in Ireland instead of on line gambling, why not give it a try and have a few built for the next Celtic Tiger. IMO

Gamblore will help bring extra money into the Irish exchequer to pay off the gambling debts of the state. He's a slippery one he is.

I wouldn't be in favour of it to be honest. I think this country has enough problems already without further facilitating something as financially destructive as this.

I remember at the time of the proposed tipp development that to make a casino that size viable means having something ridiculous like 50,000 visitors a day!!! that will never happen in this country

Edit: That was a week actually

i would have no problem seeing one or two vegas style resorts on the island, one in dublin and one say in galway could generate alot of income for the economy, in macau all gaming profits are taxed at 39%

Gambling and Leisure Assoc Irl http://www.glai.ie/ are in favour of regulation of private members clubs and not large resort type casinos.

Casinos are an unfortunate necessity in the future.

The only way you'll claw back a few Euro's off the Chinese bastards who are fast taking over the world

Yeah, and how many people have lost jobs or families, or even their homes, due to gambling?

If it's private money then I'm all for it.

Yeah, and how many people have lost jobs or families, or even their homes, due to gambling?

I don't know, but I suspect they lost it through their own fault.

    I don't know, how many?

What I do know is that Nevada has no income tax as a result of gaming.

It could never have the same atmosphere as las vegas, there's too many rules and "nanny state" catholic influenced laws here.

There are far less legislation and rules for "Private Members" clubs in Dublin than casinos in the US. The Casino business in the US is very tightly regulated.

Ireland has no equivalent of Gaming Commissions/Gaming Boards for instance.

I'm not talking about the gambling laws, I'm talking about the blind eye turned to prostitution/drug/gun laws and the fact you can access drink 24/7. It's just generally a more relaxed atmosphere to spend your time.

    Or through a gambling addiction

Probably, because he is a massive pr1ck. People will gamble, generally go wild and enjoy themselves - that's life. Why not capitalise on it????

Vegas style casinos will get Ireland out of the recession.

    You heard it here first.
