A long shot, looking for an Engine for a Renault Vel Satis

    Hi All,

I know this is a long shot, I need an engine for a Renault Vel Satis 2002 2.0L Petrol. The timing belt went in mine, (even though did not have 10,000 miles on the clock since it was changed), the dealer/garage that changed it, has gone out of business. So I'm trying to decide what is the best option for me.

Anyone any idea's for me (I really don't want to scrap it if I don't have to, but realise I may have no choice).

    Thanks in advance

I think the mechanicals on these are all Laguna II so it might be easier source one from a Laguna.

thank you for that, a guy I know thought the same thing but my mechanic doesn't know anything about Renault's and I'm trying to sort this out myself :-). I absolutely love the car, and I have cash lying around if I needed to get one, but just need to be sure on my facts and stuff.

I'd say you'd want to try the UK or Traynors in the north. The 2.0 Turbo in those cars is certainly not a common engine in the UK and is almost non-existent here. Any hope your own engine can be rescued?

Nice car by the way, hope you can save it!

Thats just it, he hasn't even opened the engine up yet to see what kind of damage has been done, am kind of at a brick wall with this, it happened 2 weeks ago yesterday, tow truck home from miles away, not a pleasant experience.

There weren't too many of them sold in the Republic. I'd say your best bet would maybe be up north or in Britain.

I'd start with the owners club.

the Renault owners club (sorry a bit slow when it comes to stuff like this lol)

There would surely be a Renault owners club or a Renault forum that is UK based? Join that and explain your situation to them. I'm sure someone will be able to help you out, or at least point you in the right direction:).

    Here you go: http://www.vel-satis.org/owners-club

There's also the Renault Owners Club : http://www.renaultownersclub.com/

You'll probably find them both very helpful.

Thanks very much, I'll try and do a bit of research. I only had the car about 2 months, and it was a gift, and I absolutely love it, and would be disgusted to have to get rid of it.

The Vel satis shares its platform with the Espace VI (03+) which also has a 2.0Turbo engine.

Google their engine codes and you might get lucky

    Thanks again

At least I have some information to work on. I'm aware it's a rare car in this country, so wasn't holding out much luck in finding out any information.

    http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/index.php?

This is the forum I used when I was researching various renaults and very informative it seems to be busier than the other forums.

If you don't have any joy sourcing an engine I think you need to open it up to see if its repairable - it may be a new set of valves etc ... you will have to balance that against the cost of sourcing & fitting a new engine.

Ya I'm wondering if i should just ask him to open it up and see what we are talking about .
