    Hi there

    1999 Peugeot 5 door 1.4 Petrol Car

So My car failed NCT Yesterday. Had a quote of 350 to 400 to get it past the NCT. I have spent a lot of cash on this car in the past and dont have any use for it anymore in any event. My question is what would i get for

    A Failed NCT 206
    Passed NCT 206
Is it worth chopping it up for parts or more hassle than its worth?
    QUICK SALE NCT FAILURE

In general the cars in "OK" condition. Radio not working and the car stutters a bit when driving in 4th

    Any advice appreciated

What year is the car? If it's over 10 years old (and therefore needs an NCT yearly), then I would consider selling for parts.

Sorry I didnt put the most basic thing in lol 1999! :o

When selling for parts what exactly happens do you just let people come with tools and take what they want and specify a price? The car is driving.
Exhaust has hole. maybe why lambada is out and a hole in the exhaust that i can put some filler on i guess. Back brakes need adjusting too. I dont know if I have the space to leave it out to be taking parts for months. Would anyone hazard a guess to selling it as a "going concern" how much i would get?

Might be helpful to detail what it failed on.

Friend of mine bought a 99 206 for 380, with 9 months test on it and a Sony Xpold cd player...

He may have been lucky in the sense he has it since May and nothing has went wrong, but still, I'd probably cut your losses.

Brake Test Fail Rear Brakes imbalance above 30%
Lambda High IDle 1.19 (Maybe due to hole in exhaust)
Head Light Dip Beam one side needs aligned (30 euro
Hole IN exhaust Assembly (50/60 Euro for patch up)
Load and brake proport valves (100 Euro for this part)
2 x brake lights need bulbs ( no Big Problem)

Quoted 385.00 for all this to be corrected which seems not bad

Tricky situation, 400 Euro might seem a lot but will get you through...what car would you buy for 400 euro? Or 1000 for the matter, whatever you get for that money will need some work to be done - you risk spending a grand on a car and then need another 400-500 to fix it up...

I'd be getting another quote to do that worth.

That load proportion valve I got out of a scrappy for 25 quid and one of the lads through it in for a tenner. It's actually something on the back axle you could nearly spray oil on.

The lamba is probably a hole in the exhaust, 50/60 quid for a patch up depending where it is sounds mad. Head light alignment you could do yourself off a shed with a screwdriver and a car with aligned headlights already and the brake bulbs, well, two screws and the tailight comes out.

I'd be saying keep the car but ditch the mechanic.

100% agree. It should only cost half of that to fix it.

The car you know is better then the car you don't know!

Hmmm Interesting Might try do it up with help of a friend. I have steel Putty for the exhaust hole or do you have to use a specific repair kit?
Cheers for the help lads. If i can dickie up myself ill try pass her see how i get on. Yeah the NCT guy said Proport valve might just need WD40 and not to replace it. Would be a shame to scrap a car thats more or less working  Cheers for the input ill let you know How i get on :)

    Get your radio fixed too..

    You Need music :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

What's wrong with the radio? I'd imagine you'd get a second hand one for handy money, if you're installing a new one they're a bit of hassle.

On reflection on it during the night I think i cant be bothered with it anymore. Im gonna sell as a failed NCT more than likely. How much would anyone think ill get for her that way. Its driving and has some decent parts on it. im thinking 250/300 ? I dont have the space to strip it down over months to sell off bits and pieces realistically
