    Last years thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=75165309

The 2nd annual Super Valu 5km Road race will take place on Sunday 2nd December 2012. This year the race will be a chip timed.

There will be a prize fund of €500 for the winners across a few categories which will be announced shortly.

Online registration will be open shortly on the runireland website and will cost €10 for preregistered and €12 on the day.

Proceeds go to local charities (Team Cain Fund, St Marys patient Care fund, Castleblayney Cancer Society and Castleblayney Faughs Juveniles)

Any questions, just leave here and I'll do my best to get back to them.

Great race this last year, definitely recommend it and will be doing it myself again this year. Good fast course and great value for €10.

Agree pconn062, last year was a great race and hopefully only get better this year.

Now I've the marathon done, looking towards this race. Have updated the runireland page with some details on the prize fund and categories.

    Well bigslice,
What's the story with on the day registration? Is it from the football pitch or down the town? Also, what time is the race at, and are there nice sandwiches and buns after?

    Well RunforestRun,

Registration is in same place as last year, not at the football field but in the town at the Glencarn Town centre above the new Super Valu store. Plenty of parking in the Glencarn hotel and shopping centre car park and this is beside the start and finish. Prereg is €10 online or will be available locally in the run up and on the day Reg is €12.

There will be tea/coffee, nice buns and even nicer sandwiches after it in the Glencarn Hotel - nice and warm. Last year Gerry Duffy of 32marathons give a talk at this and hopefully we'll have someone in to do the same this year.

    Hope this helps.

Great job, thanks bigslice. Looking forward to the buns, sandwiches and the race.

Correction - Race, sandwiches and buns! Ya got to earn the buns first?

You do the race last year?

Ha.. No, I didn't get up to it bigslice, was planning on it but had to bail on it the day of the race. Looking forward to getting up to it this year hopefully. As a Scotstown man with loads of relations from Cremartin, I'd be looking to put in a good showing in Blayney. Plus, a new pair of racing flats to be put to the test and a 5k PB that needs a proper downward adjustment. The buns are just a bonus though. :-)

RunForestRun, at that rate its as good as a home run for you and plenty of people to impress! Scotstown men always looked to impose themselves when they landed in Blayney.

We actually have a Scotstown man in to give a talk after the race, while you enjoy your Tea and buns. Dr Niall Moyna from DCU and Operation Transformation will be giving a presentation after the run in The Glencarn Hotel.

Also, was noted that the online Reg had an error and was charging €12 instead of the €10, been corrected now and those charged €12 will get the €2 refund on the day.

Excellent bigslice. Great to see the boom in running in Monaghan these days with all the newer races around Monaghan town too. There was a qware crowd from Blayney running DCM, some pretty nifty bucks too.

Have ye a facebook page set up for the race? Might drum up a bit more support from the locals? Saw a small bit on the race in the Standard this week.

Aplogies for not coming back quicker. Yeah, great variation and number of runs round the county at the minute, the clubs are getting a bit more active now and its great to see.

Yeah, we'd a great turnout of the Marathon, was the first one for myself. 5 of the lads broke 3hrs with ease and if they were an affiliated club they'd have taken 3rd place apparently.

With have a facebook page that is promoting the race - if you look up Operation Transfaughmation or Castleblayney Faughs either, you'd get all the details there and can pass on the details. Much appreciated.

I was chatting to Nudie Hughes yesterday at a function, trying to talk him into running the race. Scotstown have a 5 mile race in the summer that a lot of the club legends from the 80s were all running too. I know my sister and mother decided pre-race that the goal was to beat the club legends and worked damn hard to do so. With your race's link with the Faughs, might be good craic to encourage mid-packers. Can you beat Nudie Hughes in his own backyard?

Thats a good way of looking at it. Last year in the lead up with had a picture in the Standard of Nudie, Loughy, Declan Flan and Eamon McEneaney and they all took part and should be doing the same this year. I'll get that going in the paper next week and on facebook this week. Cheers.

The Ned Run is a great event as well, great turnout last few years.

Less than a week to go till the 5km, registration has been very strong and ahead of last year at this stage when almost 500 took part. Had expected it down from talking to other race goers who said that the volume of races is so much now that people will pick and chose more.

Reg open till friday on Runireland for €10 and will be €12 on the day, race starts at 2pm sharp. On the day Reg will close at 1pm in the Glencarn town centre.
