Clamping Query

Not sure if this is the correct place to start a thread.

Have a parking permit for a pretty busy residential road in Ranelagh, came home late and couldn't find any parking. So I went to a side street off my road and found a space and parked up. Went to my car the next day and it was clamped, rang up the clamping company and asked them why and they said my permit didn't cover me for the side street (have asked the clampers over the last 6 years and they have said it was fine to park on the side street if you couldn't find parking). Paid the fine and had the clamp removed and noticed the two cars parked next to me had resident permits for my street and not the side street, when I asked the clamper would they be clamped he drove off and never went near them!

Anyone have any experience with this happening before?

    Thanks

Are the clampers acting on behalf of the local council? If so then lodge an appeal with the council.

You need to find out whether the permit covers you for where you parked, all the rest is irrelevant. If it does then appeal.

Yeah, spoke with the council and they said it only covers my road, but I more confused about the fact that other residents still park on the side street when there isn't any parking available on the main street. One car ha been there 2 days now and still hasn't been clamped? (I even checked their permit to see if they had a dual street permit).

Just because you were caught there's no reason to set the goons on your neighbours!

You sound like you'd be happier if they had also had their car immobilised and money extorted.

The whole system stinks. You can be sure there was no room on your street as people were pay and displaying there. Double income! P&D as well as clamp money!

I said nothing of the kind, just want to know what the score is and if anyone has some across a similar situation?

I do agree on the double income bit

You could appeal, stating that the clampers told you that it was ok and providing evidence that it appears to be generally accepted. I wouldn't call it cast iron grounds, but it's probably worth a shot.
