Why Wont They Play My Music?

I am a producer & DJ, with great support from BBC radio, big DJs such as the legendary Afrika Bambaataa and Jaguar Skills spin my tracks.

I produce a weekly radio show with 25,000 weekly listeners. The show is often broadcast on UK, German, Italian, Australian FM radio stations reaching over 100,000 listeners. BUT not a single Irish station will broadcast my show.

Anybody got any idea why they won't broadcast the show or do you have any radio contacts?

what Irish stations are you expecting to play your show?
aside from a few slots on the RTE digital stations, some slots on local radio, and pirate stations, "electronic" music shows don't get much of a look in. those countries you mentioned have much larger populations, so consequently have bigger markets for "electronic" music. if everyone in Ireland stopped listening to ****e like Black eyed Peas and Rihanna and started listening to house or techno, the main stations would be snapping up produers/djs of those genres and playing them all day.

have you tried any of the pirates? or RTE Pulse/2XM?

you haven't given us any idea of what music you make, or what you play on your show so it's pretty impossible to say why they won't broadcast the show, and i'm not sure what good radio contacts (of which several people on here have) would be.

how did you get your show(s) to be aired internationally?

Because it's cheese ? and the stuff you play\Produce is not for the Irish market, Just a guess? BBC Radio are going the wrong way in regards to dance music... so i believe. as everyone pointed out - who are you and what have you produced?

Any station would do, haven't tried the pirates yet, was looking for an Irish FM home for the show. Even the 2am slot when the local stations put the breakfast show on repeat??? Would do.

The format is 30 min, weekly. Once a month is a genre 'special' such as ska, reggae, swing, rock which are very popular, getting up to 4 times the exposure of the regular show and supported by some great DJs. The regular show is remix based, nearly every track is a mash up or remix, you might call it high energy party or club music, its not trance or dubstep and its very radio friendly. The show also features a 5min minimix of the only internationally broadcast weekly breakbeat (remix) chart.

I've been a club DJ for 12 years, I used to DJ on a few radio shows & pirates too so i built up contacts who put me in touch with the international stations, or I just brass knecked it asked & they played it. I'm having no such luck here.

Where's George when you need him? He's in the media, you know. I'm sure if you play Ultravox he'll give you a slot

Why dont you send some of your demos or recordings to White Noise - Dave Clarke. He would be the main techno focus in 2fM and 2XM I think, he would be doing the after hours weekend shows and he also gave great coverage to the Irish EDM festival Life http://2fm.rte.ie/whitenoise. Also to make an impact on Ireland you should send some of your stuff to the festivals too, its one way towards exposure and sometimes the small festivals take a chance on the unknown DJs. Try these ones for the following summer http://life-festival.com/lifefestival_2012/home/ http://bodyandsoul.ie/ http://electricpicnic.ie/index.cgi?page=index.cgi http://www.bumpfestival.com/

Edit: Donal Dineen is another great DJ you could possibly send stuff too as well. https://www.facebook.com/DonalDineen

Thanks for the links bod, but its not Techno, its break beats "party/club music" lots of international DJs play my productions, I am looking for an Irish FM station that will broadcast my weekly radio show. I have dj'd at fabric, egg, gatecrasher and the warehouse project in the UK, I'm not unknown everywhere, just in Ireland haha. I'm trying to change that and any help is greatly appreciated.

    Ireland is style over substance

    Are you Irish?

Because if you are that is why. Go to any gig, the majority of the crowd will know **** all about Irish artists and producers but plenty about international ones.

Sure, there is a dedicated scene here, but it's tiny and has no presence outside of it's own hotspots. Just look at the internation support guys like Solar Bears and SertOne are getting versus here.

Owesy is getting repeated plays and support by Mary Anne Hobbes while Nialler9 is yammering on about some arsehole with a geetar.

I still have no idea what your style is after reading that.

If you say who you are you might get some suitable recommendations.

Haha that's probably what the problem is.

The productions are similar in style to Mr Scruff www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS_CLIF1h-o , Skeewiff www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8xeXxwyaKU or the Dirty Dubsters (From Dublin) and the format is similar to Jaguar Skills feature on Radio 1
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a5ztKtsmyc but not quite so intense. The show has around 30 tracks in 30 min.

Ok, I've a bit more of an idea where you're coming from now. Little bit like DJ Format, DJ Yoda etc?

    Try Raidió Na Life possibly.

I listen to this guy http://www.rte.ie/rnag/antaobhtuathail.html

But they have a mixed bag of shows.

Solar Bears and SertOne have gotten multiple mentions on Nialler9
loads of acts that have been getting international recognition lately were championed by him when they were nobodies, Mmoths being an obvious example.
he's one of the biggest promoters of Irish electronic acts around....

how come you are so slight with the hard details of your stuff, if you want to be on the radio, you have to deal with promotion, and you are doing a pretty crap job so far, where is the links to your stuff, soundcloud, mixes, podcast, why aren't you saying the name of the show or the stations you play on? bizarre

EDIT: ok, so I missed the post where you revealed a tad, basically you are into the ghetto funk/nufunk stuff, A skills, parker, featurecast, jpod, slynk, stickybuds stuff

in ireland look for Johnny Pluse, Adam Fogarty (FOG/Mathman), Dj Obese, DJ Eggz and DJ Flip, they'll all doing stuff in that sound, maybe you can come up with something together

Spot on, I work with a lot of these djs & producers.

But I'm still no closer to getting my show on a FM radio station.

Personally I think this should be locked, the OP wants to know why he is not getting exposure on the Irish FM stations. A few posters have requested his name and some links to his music and we have been given hints to the style he plays, but if no one knows who he is it defeats the purpose of the thread really, my two cents.

Agreed, he had all the time in the world to let us know who is. The fact he doesn't want to implies a Walter Mitty to me.

OP, if you want this reopened then PM me with a good reason as to why we should care.
