What exactly is being broadcast in HD now. Is RTE 1/2TV3/TG4 HD under saorview.I am testing Saorview vision VST 8010 for someone. RTE2 has HD on the top right but RTE 1 has not. When the infor bar comes up at change of station there is a W and is sometimes change to HD.Is that due to the signal. The picture is very good and constant

Only RTÉ2 is in HD. Even then most of the stuff is not in native HD but upscaled except for sport and newer US shows like Homeland or CSI.

Presumably, mainly the cost of upgrading existing equipment to HD and a significant lack of HD content. I recall there was a thread on here about TV3 building a HD studio. Maybe bandwidth and the need for an additional mux and the costs associated with that?

The channels will be upgraded to HD eventually, just not in the short term.

Some of the other more knowledgeable posters would have a better idea.

Other channels will launch next year. They are fighting at the moment who will pay the extra costs. Also RTE need to upgrade their studios and back end systems and they are flat broke.

LCN HD Test 14 now showing a video loop of locations of Ireland it was on colour bars. I think 2rn used this video for testing before. I wonder is TG4 HD going to launch on LCN 14.

Likely I guess, moving to LCN 4 when launched.

It could also be TG4+1. That would be on LCN 14, if logic works.

The loop is HD so most likely TG4 HD or TV3 HD? Of course it could be just 2rn teasing us with nothing launching.

Yes, they test TG4 HD on 14, then swap them over with TG4 HD on 4, and TG4 +1 SD on 14. Simples.

That's good news - but deserves a new thread, not dragging up a four year old one.
