Im pleased to hear toyota are recalling their cars to fix potential safety issues. Unfortunetly i had a TOYOTA AVENSIS 1998,which was my first new car. It was a lovely car but the front discs buckled at 20,000miles and dispite engaging with the toyota head office in dublin, they would do nothing about the issue, they refused to replace them dispite aggreing they were a faulty batch. They said as my 3 year warrenty was up,they would not replace the front discs. That was in 2001,and I told them (toyota ireland)i would never buy another toyota again. Thank god the company seem to have better customer service now.

Don't be so sure. Its only the massive numbers involved here that is making them act. I would also think there must be a safety issue too.

Seriously, 3 year old brake discs and you want warranty? You could have buckled them yourself. You don't need to drive far or fast to damage something.

So how do you damage discs, and why would they admit ,they were a faulty batch on my car.

All car companies are out to make money and not give away free stuff.

Brake discs warp from all the heating and cooling associated with the friction of stopping the car....

Remember 'conservation of energy' at school. All that energy from forward momentum has to go somewhere. Some of it becomes heat in the disc.

This happens to lots of car -- but usually at much higher mileages. Also can happen if you have a sticky caliper - perhaps the car was left unused for long periods of time.

In my experience, I have found the Toyota dealership network in Ireland very good compared with VAG group. Had a new Golf gti in 2005 which repeatedly switched on the check engine light ---- after months of messing, Dealership were not really interested until solicitors letters were produced - 'Fix it or take it back' --- in the end they took it back after 2years

Nobody is going to cover a set of brake discs for 20k miles, a poor driver could warp them in 20 miles.

And completely unrelated to the current recall.

Don't toyoyas have very powerful brakes anyway?

If one wants the stopping power, don't expect them to last
