Where to source wind turbine motors/generators

I've built a wind turbine already, and it works out well for what I need. I was lucky enough to come across a treadmill motor in a recycling centre as a motor, and I carved the blades out myself. I've been asked to build another couple, but am having difficulty sourcing them in Ireland. I can find motors on ebay, but mostly from outside the EU. Does anyone know where I could find motors/generators that would be suitable for a micro wind turbine?

Most people who carve their own blades are also making their own generators using Hugh Piggotts designs. You can google his books etc. on the web. PMG generators are expensive. I have some 3kw ones kicking around from an old project, and there is a company in Scotland that does other sizes. What size are you looking for?

Not very big at all. I've been asked to present a short course on how to self build a micro wind turbine. I know it is possible to work with the Hugh Piggot plans, but I was hoping to do it with something simpler as an entry to wind turbine experience. Since the generator is the most significant part of the build, that's why I was looking for a source for them.

Ah. If it is a small unit, you could try Renewable Components UK or Future Energy.

    See here and here
