Immersion tank keeps refilling

My Immersion tank leaked at the weekend through the immersion connection. We called a plumber who couldn't remove the immersion from the top of the tank as it was corroded onto the cylinder. He disconnected the immersion until we are able to get a new tank.
He said we could still use the rads no bother.
thing is the tank keeps refilling and we have to empty it using a hose every day. Is there a way of stopping the tank refilling?

We have tried to contact the plumber again but he hasn't gotten back to us yet

    Thanks for any advice

The ch should be fine as it is connected "indirectly" to the cylinder with a spiraling copper pipe, the coil.

Could be one of two problems

The valve which should isolate the cold feed to the cylinder is passing, or

The coil has corroded and split

Which ever the cause you need to replace you cylinder(not immersion tank)

Can you post a picture of the immersion corroded into the cylinder? I very seldom see ones that cant be removed.

If you have a soils fuel boiler you should not light it with the hot water cylinder empty.

The valve on the cold water supply to the cylinder is most likely not stopping the water completely which is causing it to fill back up, there is probably no other way of shutting off the supply.
It shouldnt take long to get a replacement cylinder standard ones are generally in stock with most plumber merchants, non standard ones are usually available within 24-48 hrs.
Did you get a price for supply and replacement of the cylinder? you shoulg get a few prices as labour and copper can vary greatly at the moment

There is a valve on the pipe that comes from the bottom of the tank. The valve will be higher than the top of the tank. Turn it clockwise (if not done so all ready).
It should take up to 3 hours for the plumber to change the cylinder.
