Help modems/speeds/splitters/

I have vodafone broadband which is 7mb/2mp however average is 4mb. I'm near to local exchange and if I use even 2 applications in pc it crawls to 2mb don't have ngb available yet and don't want to upgrade as line only capable of 15mb and will only be shafted I feel in payments by providers is there anything I can do like better modems etc...appeciate any advise not very techy so keep it simple thanks

I doubt that it's your modem (though you can try another one). More likely reasons are the quality of of your connection and congestion. Did you talk to tech support? Have them test your line.

yep told me to get splitters which I did, they got it up to 7mb while on call, but following day down to 4mb, thanks for reply

Tell us more about the PC/laptop. Like make/model, or CPU speed/Ram size. Does the hard drive activity light stay on a lot ?

And more about what you use it for.

Used for general stuff,skype, gaming, poker downloading songs etc...
my wife has a work laptop that she uses for oracle and other financial applications which would drop/slow the most when in use thru' work server, its practical the same spec

if your using torrents to download the songs you might be seeding loads of them.
