Try again tonight. The switchover has started in the North and will partially completed today. The second one will happen on 24th of October and more channels should be added.

    Try again tonight

How did the tv find the channels if there's no signal? What UHF channel no./frequency are they on?

The BBC A mux. is at full power from Divis & Brougher Mtn. now. It's unlikely you're using a relay in Co. Monaghan (maybe Camlough in some areas?).

Even though there are channel numbers coming up you probably should retune your digital channels. I let autotune run on two TV's in the house this morning and the RTE channels stayed in the sorted order they were in but now the BBC digital channels are coming in really well. I'm in the Drogheda area with a 20 year old aerial pointed towards Divis.

As you can see my location on the border still no signal on the new digital channels its picking up all BBC channels but no picture. Is it not meant to be switched on for the 10th.

    Scan again tonight.

You should be getting something. Have you tried checking the info on: http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch/northernireland ? Try entering a UK postcode for somewhere on the border near you and can get more detailed info on channel availability.

Have you got a 2k box or TV? That could be the problem as its all 8k now. Everybody else down the East Coast is getting BBCA: Phase 1 is complete and all transmitters are live at full post-DSO power. This sounds like a TV or box issue.

No BBC4? As I mentioned already, check the channel no./frequency. That looks like the old low powered mux. that's been switched off.

Did you rescan? You probably picked up the old low powered transmissions at some point in the past.

NB: First time installation might be required to sweep out the TV's memory and start again. Tip: run a scan with aerial unplugged to wipe the memory and then start again or else do factory reset/first time installation (Older TVs and boxes require this.)

    Thanks for responses everyone

Ive just done a full rescan and got pictures now! Got BBC4 now as well Peter - pictures seem decent quality as well, which is a relief - hopefully wont have to get a dish now :)

by the way they are on 530Mhz, channel 28 - my signal quality is 100% and signal strength is 46%, im in the mid monaghan area

Big increase in signal strength and quality from Limavady on that mux, now it is stable at my location.

Hi Excollier, what's your location in Donegal, Inishowen or elsewhere? Thanks

indeed, it looks like I may be needing to do this and kill my favourite lists.

my box is now telling me I have 94 TV channels on freeview plus 48 radio channels which sounds a little on the high side !!

EDIT: after factory reset thats aparantly how many channels are actually found by the scan! At least now though bbc 1 is at channel number 1 rather than 801 which was annoying me for the past couple of years and couldnt be changed on my cheapo phillips freeview box.

They're on ch.28 now: you were more than likely still looking at the old mux.1 on ch. 30 earlier.

Channel 45 with mux A is romping in here at 70% strenght and 100% quality also picking up some other mux on ch59 wherever thats coming from.

    E45: Kilkeel

    E59: Camlough

Watch the BBC1 News at 1830 and confirm its Newsline...

yes i think it was ch.30 540Mhz before...

Are there any more power boosts due for the northern transmitters and does anyone know when UTV and C4 are due online?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

The BBC A mux. is on full power now. The other 2 PSB muxes (including ITV, C4 & the current HD lineup) will increase to a similar level on Oct. 24th.

The 3 commercial muxes will get less of a power increase & could be subject to interference from the Divis PSB muxes.

You can see what could be available in 'after switchover configuration' here (substitute UTV for ITV1, the PSB muxes are BBC A, BBC B & D3 + 4).

Start a new thread and we will try and help. List what channels you had before the combi box and what the quality was. Also list what channels you have picked up.

Which Triax combo, the TSC 114 ? It has a DVB-T tuner so you wont receive Freeview HD broadcasts as they use DVB-T2 (different tuner module). You will receive the HD broadcasts from Saorview as they use DVB-T. You will get the UK HD station equivalents off the satellite tuner.

I take it those of us served by relays won't be getting more than the PSB?

What set up are you using Spawker, North Swords myself and have an attic aerial for saorview. Might try a retune, but seeing as I have freesat I won't be erecting another aerial just for the chance of getting freeview.

Has anyone managed to pick up freeview after they switched on the power yesterday who wasn't getting analogue bbc prior to this.

Using a wideband grid aerial with a group B masthead amplifier and a ican easy 2851t box upstairs and a samsung tv downstairs.

I find this amazing. I didn't know we were going to get BBC channels on Saorview. I was nearly going to get a Combi digital Box in order to get the English Channels. Also after the 24th, will we get UTV, Channel 4 etc?

Yes you will get the UTV's and channel 4's and more after the 24th.

Technically, we're not. It's overspill from Freeview NI. The technology involved in receiving the signals is (mostly) the same.

So, will Northerners get all the Saorview Channels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    • About 50% of Northerns maybe get Saorview. That has "all" channels.
    • Some will get the N.I. Minimux. No TV3 or 3e and RTE2 only SD, TG4 only SD even after HD on Saorview and Saorsat. Might not have RTE1+1/RTEJr
    • All can get Saorsat. RTE2 is HD on Saorsat. No TV3 or TG4
    • Maybe only Saorview for Oireachtas TV. Or maybe Saorsat too. I don't think space on Mini-mux in NI.

55-60% of the population will get the Saorview overspill with the correct receiver and aerial. Another approx 35% will get RTÉ1/2, TG4 and RnaG from 3 transmitters in NI transmitting the NImux, again with correct receiver.

What's the make & model of your tv or STB? Probably doesn't have the DVB-T2 capability required for Freeview HD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Daithi2004

Yes, I am getting all the ITV channel and Channel 4 & 5 etc so Happy days...

Panasonic tv does Freeview HD according to specs. here: http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/VIERA+Flat+Screen+TV/2012+Smart+VIERA+Plasma+TV/TX-P42ST50B/Specification/9034711/index.html?trackInfo=true

Maybe something to do with country settings? There are a lot of threads in this forum dealing with Panasonic products & their foibles.
