I think i read somewhere that Turkey are going for the olympics in 2020, so they are trying to show that they can host a major sporting event.

Can't mean that much - just seen Rory talk to his girlfriend on 13th.

Money means nothing to him now.

No need for talking to your girlfriend during a match

    Young Love. :P

    Why not?
I've always imagined rorys attitude to be exactly what it should be, in other words that of very wealthy young man who has'nt a care in the world and fully intends to enjoy life!

    serious prize money involved.

No affiliation to PGA or European tour though so basically a publicity stunt!

Serious money involved alright. But for turning up more so than winning. It's not a PGA or Euro tour sanctioned event so they can swan around chatting to people wearing hideous looking shorts all they want.

    Great when you are winning.

But no need to talk to your girlfriend or other at work after hitting a tree nearly her and losing match.
    Time and a place.
Make it look like your trying for people watching on tv and paying for you to play.
Maybe I'm old, but never seen anything like that in pro sport, girl on pitch or inside ropes. I'm watching all sports a long time.

Still love watching hime play - but that does my head in.

Yeah, and they're off to a great start with the head of the Turkish glf brawling with journos on the first tee, with headlines such as these:

"Turkish golf president sorry over clash with journalists at Woods match"

"Ahmet Agaoglu accused of headbutt ahead of Woods match"

"President: 'I will give a written apology. It was not nice'"

"Ahmet Agaoglu, president of the Turkish Golf Federation, has apologised for his part in a brawl involving journalists"

All but two courses in Turkey are located in Belek. Was there a few years ago and it is absolutely superb for golf. Weather is excellent and the courses are top class. Nearly all have full practice facilities and many designed by the likes of Monty and Faldo. In fact the original course there is National and was designed by David Jones and David Feherty IIRC. Green fees are very reasonable as are the hotels.

The hotels are also top class with all inclusive the order of the day.

The course they are playing the World whatever is on the Sultan course part of Antalya Golf Club and was also designed by David Jones.

Well worth a visit but with no direct flights to Antalya in the winter it is hard to get to from Ireland.

I believe Caroline Wozniacki is sponsored by Turkish Airlines as well as this tournament so I'm sure they don't miind her being on camera too!
Rory seems abit disinterested in this one. Hasn't played since Ryder Cup so this is probably just a warm up again for the end of season run in to Race to Dubai title.

    http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/news/newsid=175202.html#turkish+open+starring+role+the+2013+european+tour

The European Tour, the Turkish Golf Federation and International Sports Management today announced the Turkish Open, a new US$7 million event, as the penultimate tournament on The 2013 European Tour International Schedule.
The 78-man field tournament will be played from November 7-10, 2013, at The Montgomerie Maxx Royal, Belek, Antalya, the week before the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai – the climax to the Race to Dubai.
It will be fully sanctioned by The European Tour in a three-year agreement, with details on the eligibility criteria to be announced at a later date.
The announcement was made during the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final taking place at Antalya Golf Club, an elite eight-man event providing a taste of the world-class golf to look forward to in Turkey next season.
Keith Waters, Chief Operating Officer of The European Tour, said: “We would like to thank the Turkish Golf Federation and International Sports Management for their co-operation in delivering this exciting new event.
“Turkey is one of the fastest developing golf nations in the world and the Turkish Open will further enhance the country’s golfing credentials. As the penultimate event of The 2013 European Tour season, and carrying such a significant prize fund, we anticipate many of the world’s best players to become regular visitors to Turkey.”

Ahmet Ali Ağaoğlu, President of the Turkish Golf Federation, said: “I am very honoured to make this announcement and to be able to bring a top-class European Tour event to Turkey. We believe that Turkey, and in particular Belek and Antalya, is the best golfing destination in Europe and one that deserves such a world class event.
“I would like to thank Keith Waters and The European Tour for their support, as well as Chubby Chandler and ISM.”
Andrew Chandler, Managing Director of International Sports Management, said: “This is just a great move for Turkey. This tournament ticks a lot of boxes for Turkey who are really driving towards a bid for the 2020 Olympics. Hosting big events like this tournament can only help that strategy and to be able to announce a three year deal for a $7 million tournament is a very rare thing these days. I’d like to thank Ahmet in particular because he has been the driving force behind this.”
The Montgomerie Maxx Royal was designed by eight-time Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie, in association with European Golf Design, and opened in 2008. Set within 104 hectares of picturesque, mixed pine forest and sandy ridges, the feel of the natural environment has been maintained, thereby enhancing the particular characteristics of the golf course. The par 72 Montgomerie Maxx Royal measures 6486 metres.

6 amateurs paid a combined GBP400,000 to play a round with Tiger today in Turkey! They splitinto threes to make two fourballs and play 9 holes each with him.
