Winter commuting

    Hi,
I'm commuting for the last 3 months and love it. However, its only a matter of time before the weather turns and its raining every day, and possibly snowing. There was a couple of days over the summer where it was raining and windy and me face nearly froze off me. I also got soaked once or twice, so I'm trying to get ready for the inevitable winter commute!

What do people generally wear for the cold commutes? Obviously I'll have to get some waterproof bottoms (any recommendations?), but what do people cover their face with? A scarf might be a bit much, and a bandana might be too little. I don't fancy getting a full on BMX helmet either! I've taken to wearing some cheap sunglasses just to stop the wind and rain getting in me eyes but its not great. It was raining so heavily a few weeks back I couldn't open me eyes and had to pull over for a few minutes!! It was a nightmare!

Anyway, whats the standard winter commuting gear I'll need (eg waterproof stuff, gloves, glasses, face protection), and any recommendations for where I'll get it?

    Cheers.

I would wear a Buff (or any way cheaper similar product) or maybe even two

Waterproof Trousers and jacket and a good base layer, gloves which keep you warm but are not too thick so thet shifting and braking is still easy

Buff, Sealskinz and a Cap instead of Shades for keeping the rain out my eyes.

For the cold - Buff / neck gaiter a must, I wear a thermal beanie. Decent pair of gloves as well - preferably waterproof.

    For the wet -
Top half - Rainproof jacket - anything from Aldi to Assos out there. I use a Scott Windstopper cycling jacket that keeps most of the rain out.

Bottom half - Leggings - I use Montane pants, and overshoes. Mud guards on the bike have greatly helped things.

I tend to focus on keeping warm, rather than fight the unwinable battle of keeping dry.

So it's winter boots, fleecy water-repellent bibs and various layers depending on the weather & temperature.

I also have buff and beanie for the head.

If you've a bit cash, you can get this for E117!

    Do not forget proper lights.

And just like that, the rain comes!
Was a bit stuck this morning so just wore a hoody and sunnies. Then stuck me helmet over me hood as it has a peak so that kinda stopped the rain from getting in me eyes.

Will be investing in some more suitable gear asap!

PS, I have lights for front and back, just need to stick batteries in them and i'll be sorted.
