Its a little bit more complicated then someone signing a form. You are claiming that you are permanently unfit for any kind of work, and that, as a result, you need financial assistance to live. First of all the Dept. have to be sure that you are unfit for any type of work. Then they have to make sure that you dont already have plenty of money yourself!!:)
Lots of people send in applications for Disability Allowance every single day, and many other applications for other types of payments as well, all going to the same office. The office is short-staffed because the Government cannot afford to pay more staff to work there. Thats just some of the reasons you are waiting so long.:)
Dont worry, if you are approved (hopefully before Christmas) you will get a nice little lump sum in back money, so best to just try and be patient.

It can take a while to get approved/rejected. Took 8 months for mine to be approved .

the minimum wait is 17-19 weeks, but alot of people are getting turned down first time. I've been turned down twice already even though i have lots of specialists letters to say i'm not fit for work.

yeah, i heard that there rejecting like 75% of the people that apply. its bull because theres people in ireland that really need the money, even more than me and there getting rejected. didnt think they would do this to their citizens
