Compaq presario CQ5304uk crashes when it connects to eircom netopia routers (have tried 2 different models) with firefox/IE/Chrome, on wireless & wired connections.

Will connect to the internet without crashing.

PC has latest updates, W7SP1 64Bit. Eset Smart Security,

Have done clean boot, still crashes

Crashes in safe mode with networking.

Anyone any ideas? Not urgent as user doesn't ever connect to the router, just bugging me as to what's causing it...

Possible, reinstall the driver for the network adapter.

Or faulty hardware... try some Linux Live distro and see how it behaves.

Changed wireless USB adapter, still crashed. Used ethernet adapter, still crashed, but ONLY when connecting to the router interface 192.168.1.254...

Used microsoft's ip address to connect to www.microsoft.com and worked no problem, surfed the net for an hour no problems, put 192.168.1.254 into address bar, hit enter and BSOD... have to return pc tomorrow as it's needed so can't do any more investigating...

Just hoped someone had come across this before an could let me know the cause

Flush the DNS resolver cache... run ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt with admin rights.
