They say the problems are small , but how much to put right :
    • Headlight aim - fail
    • Side Lamps - Not working
    • Transmission CV Boot - Frayed / cut
    • Wheels - Nut missing
    • Tyre condition - Age more than 6 years old ( advisory only )

The tyres won't cause you a fail if it's an advisory only. Once they are in good condition you'll be fine.
Side lamps you can check yourself to see if a fuse is blown. This kind of thing is easily checked beforehand tho. If both are gone it's most likely a fuse.

Headlight - Does it need to be aligned? You can do this yourself to pass or bring to somewhere to have it done correctly. If doing it yourself go to the local Lidl or Aldi at night time. Park up against the side at facing the white wall and set the dimmer to 0. Open bonnet and adjust the light manually until they are correct. The key to passing is low n safe. Get the top of the light in line with the opening of the bonnet. You can generally turn the little knob by hand but may need a small screwdriver or socket to fit over and turn. Back the car up a bit and make sure it's all level, move close to wall and just ensure it's nice and even across. It will fail if it goes up toward other drivers eyes etc.

CV Boot is a wear n tear. If you're handy you could prob do it yourself but it's not a major job for a indy for example.

Wheels you can source a nut. Another thing easily avoided before NCT as it can be seen that it's missing. They will always fail if 1 is missing.

Not including the tyre it would cost about €100 to sort that lot out in our place.

How does one sort out where a wheel stud has been rung and no bolt for a new nut to screw on??

    Change the hub!

DIY headlamp aiming procedure (If you want to do it properly): http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/aim/aim.html
That said, if you're bringing it to a garage to have other work done, they might do the alignment for you too. Just aiming them down so you fail is stupid because you're limiting the function of your lamps out on the road where they're needed.

Corolla's have a splined stud, You can change them by taking the wheel off caliper/brake drum and knocking the old one out.
The new one will tap in and pull tight as you reinstall the wheel.
Studs are about €5 brand new from Toyota

You don't need to change the hub if you have a broken wheel stud. They can be replaced separately.
