Has this problem been rectified?

I was in the library today doing a bit of study and I discovered that I needed to print a document off from moodle. However, Maynooth being as it is, I reached into my pocket and discovered that I had only with me my plastic printing card which as far as I am aware, cannot be used in the library.
Being the impoverished student that I am, I had to walk to hole way to the arts block in order to print this document off and then return to the library. The whole situation took me in the region of 40-50 minutes to accomplish.

What happened to all the promises that were made to rectify this problem?

You can use your student card to do all that sort of stuff now; an email went out about it a few weeks ago.

All students cards have the chip inside now, it just needs your card to be activated. To activate your card head over to student records. They'll activate it for use there and then, and if you've an old card (rare but possible) they'll give you a new card free.

There are top up machines around campus to top up your card, or you can top up online (I think, that may be a few months down the line.) This card can be used to print anywhere, etc.

It'll be a year before the cards are rolled out to everywhere fully. They want to roll it out slowly to encounter any problems one by one, rather than en masse, which makes sense in the first year of it.

Where are the top up machines? Went looking for one but couldn't find any.

And where can the cards be used now so?

Off the top of my head, the cards can be used, at the very least, in core college services (i.e. printing), otherwise I don't know.

You can also activate your card at the pod in the arts block :D

    Got an email back:
    Hi Rob,

We will have two top up machines on campus - one already installed in the new library and one being installed in the Arts building - hopefully configured this week. We are working on the top up web site and are planning for roll out in the next two weeks - it's actually developed just doing final testing.

    Regards

    Rory

I think there is a top up machine in the arts building beside the main entrance. Am I right?

Seen the things in use today, where can the credit be used?

Arts Block PACR has been fully out-fitted to use the student cards now

They no longer accept the old cards but Rye Hall still does, and I believe I heard the lady working there saying that Rye will be converted eventually, and there will be a way to redeem any credit you have left on your old card once that has been done

I used to work in a place where you could put credit on your ID card for things like the vending machines, coffee shop, canteen etc.

Is that the plan here, eventually?

Canteen and shops, yes. Not sure on vending machines.

Unlikely for vending machines in the short term.
