Hip Hop Before Hip Hop

    I thought it might be an interesting thread to look at the early influences which led to the birth of Hip-Hop.

    I'll start with one of my favourite musicians Gil Scott Heron, and his 1971 classic, often referenced within hiphop by Common, Talib Kweli, and dozens more.


    Amazingly this song is from 1974, a whole 5 years before Rappers Delight.
