Speaker Impedance

    A quick question.
My amp gives me the option of setting speaker impedance of either 4 or 8 ohms.
My front speakers have a listed impedance of 6 ohms.
What is the correct setting for this situation.
    Thanks in advance

What's the make/model of the amp and speakers ? May help in answering your question.
Most amplifiers will allow a speaker impedance from 4 to 8 ohms without actually switching anything. Some amplifiers have separate terminals to connect 4 or 8 ohm speakers - common on 100V line PA amplifiers.

Speaker impedance is a nominal figure usually quoted for a certain frequency - normally 1KHz. The impedance will vary over the bandwidth of the signal the speaker is reproducing.

If it were me I'd opt for the 4 ohm setting to lessen the stress on the amplifier but a more concise answer will come once more details about the amplifier and speakers are known.

The speakers are Monitor Audio RX6's
The amp is a Sony DA2400ES.

As a general rule of thumb speaker impedance should be equal to or higher than amp impedance. If speaker impedance is lower than amp impedance it can at best shorten amp lifespan and at worst kill it.

Sorry, didn't answer your question in my previous post. You want the 4 ohm setting for 6 ohm speakers.
