Hunting Dog gets destroyed after seal attack in sea in Aberdeenshire

A "horrified" Aberdeenshire man has told how his dog was put down after being mauled by a seal when it went into the sea. Matthew Will, 21, pulled three-year-old black labrador Fly from the water near Newburgh. However Mr Will said the extent of the dog's injuries left no option but destruction.

He said the "enormous" seal was "flinging Fly around" and pulling the dog under the waves.

Poor dog, his faith was sealed.

To be fair it's not as if the seal comes storming into a dogs kennel.
He is just looking after his own patch.

Attacks by seals on humans in the water aren't unknown, usually if they have young around.

Daily Mail run the same story but lie about the dog in its headlines.

    Headline:

"Pet owner watches in horror as his labrador is dragged into sea and killed by a seal as it played in the surf"

We read later that the dog was retrieving dead ducks that were shot by his owner.

"Matthew Will, 21, had taken his labrador Fly to an Aberdeenshire beach so his dog could fetch the bodies of ducks that he was shooting".

So to conclude the dog was a hunting dog and was killed in action.

After the attack you could say the fly was opened.

The things that live in there don't like us. They have made it absolutely plain that they don't - they sting us, they ****ing... some of them nip us, some of them ****ing burn us, some of them like to eat us, or they have arms that stick to us and ****ing drown us. When are we going to take the hint, we are not ****ing welcome in there. The stones are covered in slippery stuff, you fall and hurt your arse. It's ****ing wet and it's uncomfortable and ****ing freezing. It's the truth. Our species spent ****ing thousands of years getting out, and the first thing we do is run back in.

so owner has no problem shooting ducks, but has a problem when a seal kills his dog. I don't understand this - whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Also, shouldn't dogs be leashed when out.

Oh jesus, stop correcting the word! Anyone who see's the incorrectnes just sit at your computer screen smug as you like but keep it to your self!

How sad. One minute your playing in the sea the next your distant cousin is mauling you to death.

On another note, we're as bad as the tabloids and commercial media for publishing bad news. Ever noticed that about After Hours? Quite hypocritical.

Wild mammal attacks - is it really that shocking? I do feel sorry for the poor dog, but I also feel sorry for the dead ducks he was retrieving.

Hunting has it's risks, I just hope they don't start culling seals based on this incident.
