Looks like it's coming back now again. Phew! That was a lot of very scared people for a while, especially those who don't know that they have an address bar in their browser ;)

The panic in the office, I explained that someone had typed google into google and brought the whole internet down (with thanks to the IT crowd)

If you put http://www.google.com/ncr in your address bar you'll always get to google.com without going to a country-specific google page.

    Update 1525:

Just to clarify. The DNS was not “hacked”. The DNS servers were changed away from Google to somewhere else. This is a “hijack” not a DNS hack

BUT, the change was not authorised by Google, so someone either hacked into or social engineered their way into either IEDR or Mark Monitor in order to get the change made.

Phew, I have just come off the phone from Eircom support after an hour of plugging in and out searching and researching..until we finally decided to try another domain.. yes they worked.. one computer said it was due to firewall settings but i the otherone said nothing about firewall so left alone and hope google.ie returns later. so glad now that i have come on here and see others have same problem.. instead of going to computer shop..
