I want to get my kids into swimming with a view to competitive swimmer.

I had been told around 3-4 is the right age to start. Any ideas on any north dublin clubs that are good and receptive to new members - particularly ones that cannot yet swim :) (eldest is 2 and a half)

Unless it's a toddler/young child specific class leave the 3 year old till they start school! The majority at this age don't have the capacity to pay attention & listen to the teacher when things are being explained to them & hold the rest of the group back! You'll also find that a 3 year old doing lessons for a year will be caught up by a 4 year old doing the same lessons extremely quickly (I've seen this happen within 4 - 8 weeks.) Any club coughENERGIEFITNESScough that encourages 3 year olds to join their main swim programme are only doing it for the money!

Out that way you have Alsaa, Portmarnock Sports & Leisure, The Arena Malahide (I think), Sports Link Santry, Energie Swords. I think Rogans town house Swords do some also?

What you want to find is a 'Mums/Dads and Tots' class where you are in the water with the children. My brothers and I were brought up in classes like this. These are the best way to get kids ready to swim.

Just bring your kids to public sessions at the pool until they're ready to go to normal swimming lessons, around 4 or 5. You don't need to be paying for 'lessons' before that.
