Maybe I'm looking too far into this but just scouting around the likes of here, adverts, ebay and donedeal I noticed a huuuuuge increase in people selling Mavic wheelsets. Anyone got any opinions on this? Is it just a coincidence?

Would be looking to buy a set of good training/racing wheels and I suppose Mavic were the first brand that popped into mind. Another thing is that a fair majority seem to be 2012 models, is it the quality of the wheels that are causing people to sell?

Some people just have to have "this years" model. So they sell there wheels at the end of each racing season.

Cycle Superstore have 'special offers' on Aksiums a couple of times a year - €150 for a set, if I remember correctly. Perhaps some people buy them to sell them?

I suppose thats true Lapierre but even still theres a lot more than usual for sale. Probably delving into it too much:L

@irishmotorist- You couldn't make any profit on askiums even at 150euro. The second you buy them they're already losing value. 150-75 is probably what a good set of used Askiums sell for.

I guess it's because many mavics are sold on the various bicycles, so when someone goes for an upgrade the Mavic come to the various marketplaces.

I have good experiences with mavic had a crossride wheelset and was happy with it until the bike gotr stolen.

Actually Sagi I hadn't thought of that, they are coming standard on more and more bikes lately.

Interesting comments regarding Mavics - does anyone have an opinion on the Shimano 501 - some of the Lapierre models are equipped with these this year (2013)? Similar models in the 2012 catalogue were fitted with Mavic Aksium wheels.

Got a pair of 501's om my Lapierre this year, complete junk.
$ broken spokes on back, 3 on front in less than 2,500km.

Had a back up wheelset from old bike which were used as much as 501's

Replaced under warranty for a pair of Aksiums

I'm sure if you go to carzone you will see a huge number of VW Golfs being sold. It doesn't mean the Golf is a bad car, just they are popular and there are a lot of them.
