New Telephone Line into new build

This has definately been asked before so apologies in advance for repetition but just looking for up to date info.

My builder has just dug a trench and laid ducting for ESB into house and he asked me about the ducting for phone line- he has the appropriate ducts and everything and the box is on the wall.

There are poles at the front and behind my place so I contacted Eircom and they said to just put the duct to the closest pole. I had assumed that they would come out and show me exactly where the trench should be dug(like the ESB did). I am not sure will I get a phone line in straight away so am I safe enough just laying the ducts in a trench towards the nearest pole and leaving it at that or should I be doing more to make life easier.

    Cheers

When we ran ours we ran a continuous duct to the nearest pole and left the ducting coming up out of the ground and taped to the pole. We also put a draw rope into the duct.

When eircom came out the pulled their cable through the duct and just cut off the duct above ground level where they wanted to.
